ENNY'S P.O.V
"Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, AGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!" I scream when I enter into my apartment which is now emptied of all of Damon's things. He apparently came back during the 3 hours I was gone at work, and took all his stuff to wherever.
Throwing my bag on the floor by the door, I jump onto the couch and stare at the ceiling, letting my mistakes eat away at my brain.
How could I have been so stupid to think that Caleb would choose me over his 2 year long girlfriend? Did I think he would just up and leave her when I came crawling to him?
I throw a pillow at the window. It hits it with a soft thud, then glides down to the floor.
Sighing, I get up and walk to the refrigerator and grab a can of beer, opening it and downing a large gulp. Walking over to a drawer in the kitchen, I open it and pull out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, something Damon left behind. I pull out a single cigarette, and take that and the lighter with me back to my place on the couch. Holding the cigarette in between my teeth, I light the end of it, taking a long drag.
Smoke slowly fills the space that I'm sitting in, but not enough to make the room look cloudy.
5 beers later, the world is out of focus, and I can't think straight anymore. I get up from the couch, stumbling over to my purse to get my phone. I grab onto chairs and tables to keep myself from falling. I reach down to grab my purse, but lose balance, and fall to the ground, smashing my head against the corner of a dresser, feeling the blood immediately running down my forehead. The world around me fades into black, until I see nothing and think nothing.
CALEB'S P.O.V
Going home is the impossible task. I can't get Enny off of my mind. Her beautiful brown eyes and long wavy hair completely overtake the entirety of my thoughts. I want to be with her so badly, but I have other commitments. A child needs its father, and that's who I'm going to be for it. I can't just abandon it.
I find myself walking towards Enny's apartment instead of my own because I can't bear to not have answers any longer. I just want to know how long she's felt this way and if what she said was true.
When I enter the building, the security guard looks up, a confused look flashing across his face. He then smiles and waves. "Caleb! What brings you back? Have you and Enny made up?"
I chuckle and approach his desk. "It's getting there. Is she here, by the way?"
"Yeah, she came in a few hours ago. And that's good. It's been horrible seeing you two separated these past---what 2?---years." He sighs and slouches in his chair. "And just so you know, I thought you guys were the cutest couple ever."
"Oh, we weren't--"
"It just breaks my heart to see relationships that strong come to an end, and I hope that you can mend that large gap between yourselves. You both deserve to be happy. Trust me, she ain't happy. I've seen her with that Daniel..Damien...Dobby, whatever he's called, and she isn't as happy as she was with you."
"Thanks, George, it means a lot to hear that from you, but we weren't ever dating, and I doubt we ever will, considering I'm going to be having a baby...not with her though."
He frowns, the wrinkles on his face deepening as he does so. "Oh, well, I'll call down the elevator, then."
I shove my hands in my pocket, ducking my head and feeling ashamed of myself. I mutter a thank you and walk over to the doors of the elevator. A few second later, they slide open, and I step in, pressing my back against the elevator wall. I select the top floor, and wait as the elevator climbs up.
Stepping out, I find myself in the familiar hallway that leads to Enny's apartment. It smells the same and looks the same, as if nothing has changed, but clearly so much has.
As I approach the door to her apartment, I instantly smell the strong scent of cigarette smoke, which is weird considering she doesn't smoke. I raise my hand to the wooden door and knock three times. Hearing the sound of the TV, I know that she's in there. I knock again, this time harder incase she didn't hear the first time.
After a few more seconds, I call out through the door. "Enny? It's Caleb! Can we talk?"
With no response, I pull out my phone, realizing that I still have her on my find friends app, and maybe she left without George seeing...after all, he is getting pretty old. I anxiously wait for it to load. When it does, I see that her phone is in her apartment. Realizing that she would never go anywhere without her phone, I immediately know that something is wrong. Had she been in the bathroom, she would've yelled and I would've heard. This eerie silence isn't right.
I put my hand on the door knob and twist, not expecting it to open, but it does. Slowly I open the door, and when I see her body sprawled out on the ground, her head in a puddle of blood, I drop to my knees, tears instantly falling down my cheeks. I crawl over to her, touching her neck, checking for a pulse.
Nothing.
I look around the apartment, noticing the 5 or 6 empty cans of beer on the table and the open pack of cigarettes lying next to them. A person her size can't handle that much alcohol, nor this amount of blood loss.
Frantically, I scramble to my feet, running to the phone. I dial 911 and wait as it rings.
"This is 911, what's your emergency?" Says a man on the other end.
"Hi, yeah so I just walked into my friends apartment, and I think she might be dead!" I spit out frantically and breathless.
"Okay, sir, please stay calm, emergency services are on their way. Can you please describe to me in what condition your friend is in. List any injuries and things that could have contributed to this."
"Okay, um...well she's got this massive cut on the top of her head, which could be from a glass table she hit it on...but I'm not sure. Uh, there's 6 empty beer cans and a box of cigarettes on the table..."
"Okay, thank you. Does she have a pulse?"
"I checked her neck, and I didn't feel anything."
"Place your head over her heart."
I walk over to her, resting my head on her chest over where her heart is, listening for something. I hear a pulse, followed by silence, then many seconds later another beat.
"I hear something, some beats, but they're very spread out." I tell the receiver.
"Okay, please wait there until the emergency crews get there. Can I please get your name?" He replies calmly.
"Caleb Emery." I say.
"Thank you. Services should be there any minute now."
"Okay, thanks."
"No problem, goodbye."
"Bye."
I drop the phone on the floor, still kneeling over Enny. Even passed out and covered in blood, she still radiates beauty and gracefulness.
If I lose her, I'll lose a piece of myself too.
I need her.
