Spirit Card

The interior was beautiful, even more so than the bone relic pavilion. It was a certified high class establishment. Fuyo had to admit that the bank owners had great taste and good design sense.

There were quite a few employees here and a large amount of guards. The goods stored here were obviously high quality and expensive.

Fuyo was surprised to find that every single employee and guard were in their fairy form. But they weren't bees; their wings were like angels and butterflies. Vastly different from the transparent bee wings he was used to.

"They're not bees?"

Tuzai shook her head, "They are from the Dragon Empire, and it's a country vastly more powerful than our own. They have no set race like us; their country is filled with many different races. Fuyo looked around at them, they looked were similar to the Elders he saw in his vision of the past. They must be from the same place.

They walked through the hall and went up to one of the clerks. She was a happy and lively person, she was wearing a name tag and it read 'Jasmine Kujaku'

Her wings were blue white and green, they were a gorgeous mix of colors and it even looked similar to a butterfly because the shapes made her wings look like eyes. 'Peafowl' was the first thought that came to Fuyo's head. It was a bird he commonly saw in his previous life.

"Hey there, I was wondering if I could get a spirit card."

"Of course, do you know how they work?"

"Sort of, can you explain it anyway?"

The clerk seemed to love her job, she smiled and happily explained.

"Absolutely, we have 2 kinds of cards here. We have prepaid spirit cards and spirit credit cards. The prepaid cards can be loaded with money, you just have to come into any one our branches and make a deposit. You can also withdraw your savings at any time from any Long Family bank. The second type is the spirit credit card, with this card you can loan a certain amount. But please be aware that there is a 10% interest fee."

"Okay, that's easy enough to understand. What happens if you can't pay your overdue balance?"

"First the spirit card will warn you that you owe money, it will warn you three times. If you don't pay up after the third warning then you will have your freedom stripped from you via soul chain and you will become a slave to the Dragon Empire for the rest of your life."

"Right." She smiled and started explaining.

"The terms are simple; it says you will be able to borrow up to five times your initial investment. The more you pay back the more your premium will increase. Interest is charged once a month and the interest is 10% of what you initially loaned not your total outstanding balance. This is to stop interest from getting so high that it's impossible to pay back."

"You will receive your first warning if you haven't paid the monthly interest."

"Ahm, excuse me." She cleared her throat and continued her explanation.

"For example, if you borrow 100 gold then your monthly interest would be 10 gold. If you don't pay that 10 gold then you will receive your first warning. By this time you would be charged another 10 gold for the month so you would need to pay 20 gold, if you don't pay that 20 gold by the end of the next month then you will receive your second warning. You would be required to pay 30 gold to avoid receiving your third and final warning."

"But if you pay that 30 gold then you warnings would reset, but if you took out a bigger loan then the monthly interest will obviously be higher. If you took a 100 gold loan, then the monthly interest for the first month is 10 gold, but if you took another 100 gold loan then the second months interest would be 20 gold. It's easy to understand right?"

"This is the Long family's perfect banking system that has kept people happy for thousands of years." She nodded her head proudly.

Fuyo had to agree, compared to his past the banks would let the interest snowball until you couldn't pay it back and you would be forced to sell your organs to pay them back.

"Okay so now we know how the system works, you said they will lose their freedom. How does that work?"

"If you are warned 3 times and fail to pay by the end of that month then the soul chain will be bound around your heart. You will be forced to obey the Long Family; if you don't then the soul chain will wrap around your heart and kill you."

"And the soul chains are unbreakable?"

Tuzai and Jasmine nodded their heads, "The soul chains themselves are not our magic but the magic we borrow from Heaven. We only borrow their power to form the contracts, not even the legendary Sky realm practitioners can break a soul contract."

Fuyo was learning more every day, these soul contracts are powerful tools. He could use them to create his own slave army.

"So how do we make soul contracts?"

Jasmine shrugged her shoulders, "I have no idea, only world spiritualist can make them. They take quite a few resources too. The average cost of a soul contract is 30 silver."
