"Hello Steve." Somebody said and made all three men look up from the bed. It was Natasha.
"Can Steve and I have a few minutes alone please?" Natasha asked curioulsy, ending her sentence with an encouraging smile. "We don't even get a greeting ay?" Sam said as he stood up from the chair with a chuckle. "See you later. When you need help to find him - call us." Sam said and waved at Steve. "May you recover fast and your wounds heal quickly." Thor said with a deep voice and patted Steves chest, earning a pained smile from him. "Sorry." Thor giggled and pushed Sam out of the room. "Goodbye guys." Steve winced as he tried to wave back.
Natasha smiled at them and closed the door behind them. She walked up to Steve's bed and sat down on the chair where Thor had just been sitting. "How are you Steve?" Natasha asked end looked up into Steve's blue eyes. She didn't want to admit it, but she saw Steves fear and pain in his blank face. Natasha missed the happy smile on Steves face. She missed his friendly advise whenever she needed help and she missed beeing Steves friend.
"Are we just going to pretend that nothing ever happened?" Steve asked unbelieving and looked at Natashas perplexed expression. "Because if we do, you can get out of here. I don't want to pretend anymore Natasha - the time is over and I don't want to be like this. I don't want to act like nothing ever happened. This is just so pathetic." Steve grunted. "Steve, I know that we won't be the same like we were but-" she sighed. "I just want you to know that everything will be ok."
Steve's eyes widened "Okay? Is this what you call okay? Bucky was kidnapped, I have no idea where he is and he maybe is already dead and you say that this is OK?" Steve shouted, turning away from her. Tears started to make their way into Steve's Angry Eyes. He didn't want to cry - not in front of Natasha. "That's why I am here. I was wondering if maybe, I could help you with finding Bucky and you know, working together with you and the others. Together we are the strongest Steve. No matter if we are friends or not, we are team and if Bucky's so important to you, then you really should consider the fact that I am an important part of the Avengers. Steve-" she said and searched for his eye contact. "I am sorry for what I said and I know that I can't take it back but please let me help you." Steve decided to stay quiet at this point. He actually had no good answer on Natashas question. Bucky was so important for him that it hurt. It hurt him so much. He needed every help he could get. But letting a woman help him to find Bucky, the Bucky she wanted to kill a few days ago wasn't a good idea.
They sat in silence for a few minutes when Natasha pulled out a laptop from her bag. "I wanted to show you something." Natasha said and clicked on a video. "I found this after we had our.. fight and I found it quite disturbing and concerning.. I mean look at it." Natasha added and showed the video to Steve. Steve saw a tall man in some sort of elevator.. wait - that man was him. "That's me." Steve stated and Natasha nodded. Steve remembered how he nearly broke down in the elevator. He saw his own body trembling and getting weaker with every second he was in there. After the video finished, Steve saw up to Natasha. "So. What is it ABOUT this video?" Steve asked. "See - I mean, you're the Captain America... if losing Bucky, or thinking about losing him causes you so much pain that your super-serum body nearly breaks down, then maybe you should go and talk to someone." Steves eyebrows knitted together in confusion. "Oh please. Since when are you worried about Bucky or me." Steve said and these words seemed to hurt Natasha. But Steve didn't really mind. At least it was a bit of a payback for the fight they had. "I just wanted to make sure that you're fine. We used to be friends right?" Natasha said and tried to smile. Steves expression fell at the word 'friends'.
"NATASHA, HE IS MY FRIEND!" Steve screamed angrily.
"HE DOESN'T WANT YOU ANYMORE STEVE! YOU MAY THINK IT'S LOVE WHEN YOU LOOK INTO HIS EYES - BUT IT'S NOT!" Natasha shouted back.
"He just wants to kill you! He never will love you Steve! There's nobody here that understands you, NOBODY WANTS YOU HERE!"
Steve thought Natasha was a friend.
"And if you ignore the fact that Bucky killed Tonys parents, then you killed them too." Natasha hissed and clenched her fists. Steve looked at her in disbelieve.
"I thought we were friends." Steves voice nearly broke at that.
"I never said that. That's what you wanted me to be." Natasha whispered. Silence. "I'm sorry of thinking that."
"If you meant all you said a few days ago, we never were friends. And if you think that saving Bucky, who you obviously hate, turns back time - you're wrong." Steve stated.
"Steve I didn't know-" "OH PLEASE NATASHA! You did know. You STILL do know how much Bucky means to me. You can't fix the things you did to me that day." Steve said. "I want to forgive you Natasha ... but I can't." Steve added and let his broken heart speak.
Natasha nodded and exited the room with a quiet 'Goodbye' and an absent smile.
Steve had to find Bucky, no matter how hard he had to try. He stood up from the hospitalbed and winced at the pain. "I'll find you Buck."
