Eomma:
Where are you? Aren't you
supposed to be studying
for the entrance exams?
sent @ 9:13 am"Oh crap." I say after reading the message from my mom. "I'm so screwed."
"What's wrong?" Yoongi asks, looking at me while we continue to walk to the school.
Yoongi and I decided to shoot some scenes from the school to show how the main character works hard in his studies. I was also planning on doing some cinematic parts from the school, but when I read the text from my mom, I feel like it might not happen today.
"My mom's looking for me." I admit shyly. I'm already seventeen and yet I sounded like a kid in elementary school.
"Oh," he says. "You should get going then."
I'm out filming for
a school project.
Please don't worry about me.
sent @ 9:22 am"It's fine, I guess I could stay for a few more minutes before she goes all crazy." I joke, making him chuckle a bit.
Once we saw the school, we decided to take a rest on the playground. There was rarely any people, except for the futsal team that are practicing on the field.
I sat on the swing and started swaying back and forth, my feet barely touching the ground.
"You look sad all of the sudden." He notices, taking a seat on the swing next to me.
"I'm not sad." I shake my head. "I just... feel pressured."
"You didn't have to tell me." He says, looking at the bright sunny sky making him squint his eyes before looking back on the ground. "We all have something we can't tell others."
"I know." I agreed to him. "But it's nice to let it out sometimes, especially when you've been hiding it for a long time."
He sways the swing back and forth while holding onto both of the metal chain attached to it. "I'm not the right person for this, I wouldn't know what to tell you."
"All I need is someone to listen to me." I mumbled. "But I understand if you don't want to."
"Tell me then." He stops swaying and glances at me.
I took a deep breath before speaking. "It's my parents. Ever since I was a kid, it's like everything i'm doing is not enough. They keep on pushing me and pressuring me no matter how hard I try. And now i'm so nervous for the upcoming university entrance exams because if I can't get in..." I pause, shivering a little at the thought. "It's over for me. They'll never look at me and say 'that's our daughter' ever again."
He inhales through his teeth then lets out a sigh. "That's tough."
I nodded. It's really no use telling this to someone especially him. Why did I ever think that sharing my own thoughts to someone I barely know would be a good idea? He's probably judging me so hard right now. Who knows what's going on in his mind right now?
This is such a bad idea.
"Eunji," he calls out all of the sudden. His voice low and calming. "I know that we don't know each other that much but," he pauses again and looks at the ground. "I know that you can do it."
Did he really... just... say that? I've known Yoongi for most of my high school life, but I never knew that he has this side of him. I thought he was the type of person that only cares about himself, and nothing more.
But maybe i'm wrong.
I can feel my eyes tightening, starting to form droplets of tears. I blinked hard and looked at the sky despite how blinding the sunshine is.
"You said you're bad at this." I say, wiping the moisture from the corners of my eyes with my finger.
"I am." He reassuringly says. "Don't take it the wrong way, i'm not trying to make you feel better. I just don't want other people to add up to my own melancholy."
"What do you mean?" I ask, looking at him now. He starts to sway his swing again.
"Nothing," he instantly replies in a whisper. "I just don't like it."
"Are you taking the exams?" I try to change the topic.
"No," he shakes his head with a blunt smile followed by a shrug. "I don't know, we'll see."
My phone beeps again, making me take it out from my pocket. It's another message from my mom.
Eomma:
Come home right now.
sent @ 10:11 amYoongi stands up from the swing and stretches his arms out. "I think we should go."
He starts to walk away from me again, leaving the school premises. He doesn't look back but continues walking as if I was invisible.
I closed my phone back without texting back and jog until I catch up to him. When I reached him, we began walking together on the streets of Daegu again, but this time, it's not empty anymore.
Our walk was quiet, and we didn't talk. We just walked with each other's presence until we reach a house not too far away from the school. A simple house with a few houseplants appears right before us.
"Uh, I guess i'll see you back in school." He says, scratching the back of his neck as he stood in front of the door.
"Sure." I say. "Do you wanna keep the cam?" I ask while I eye the video camera that is still in his hand.
"Oh, no." He hands over the video camera to me and I take it. "You should start editing when you get home."
He's really rushing the project... he wants to finish early. Well, I can't blame him. That's what I wanted too.
Right?
"O-okay." I nod. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Annyeong." He says before entering the house and closing the door.
I turn around and begin to continue my walk on the way home, my breathing, for some reason, finally relaxing.
