beep. beep. beep.

i awoke to a familiar beeping noise. a noise that i knew far to well.

i was back in the hospital.

i opened my eyes and i slowly sat up but then someone ran over and put their hands on my chest, gently pushing me backdown. i laid my head on a pillow, (that was actually quite comfortable) and the person removed their hands from my chest.

"the doctors said that you need to lay down, it's not good for your lungs," a soft voice said. i knew that voice. i looked at my side and sitting down on a chair was tyler. his hair was still fluffy, but it was a bit more messy, he was wearing the same outfit that he wore at the club, except this time his sweatshirt was off. he was wearing a blue shirt with a tiger on it, he looked down at his shirt and laughed.

"it's one of my favourites," he said, i smiled and i wanted to laugh with him but my chest hurt.

"how long have i been asleep?" i asked. tyler looked down at his hands and then back up at me.

"uh... about two days," he said, "you woke up a few times in between, but you were just coughing," he looked back down at his hands. i wondered if he stayed here for those two days. so of course i asked.

"did you stay here?" i asked, tyler slowly nodded his head. i smiled, no one does that. not even my mom, i doubt that she even knows i'm here.

"thank you pal," i said, he smiled and during that a door opened and i could hear heels clicking. i turned to look at the door and a woman with a tight black dress and a white dr jacket thing came walking in. she was wearing glasses, and she was holding a clipboard.

"you're still here?" she stopped walking and took off her glasses and cleaned them with her jacket. tyler nodded and she frowned. she put her glasses back on and sat down in a chair.

"so, josh. how are you feeling?" she asked, i snorted.

"i feel amazing, fantastic even! i mean, waking up from a two day slumber without any pain- well, it's something," i said. she grinned, and flipped to a page on her clipboard. "i feel like death."

"i know and we're gonna try to fix that today," she looked up from her clipboard and she looked over at tyler. "also, since you're here everyday, if it's okay if i ask.. who are you?"

"oh, me? i'm tyler, i-i'm josh's-"

"cousin. second cousin actually, he's the only family i have left," i said, i looked over at tyler and winked.

"oh?" ms. random said. her hair was jet black and her eyes were dark brown, they looked almost black. (the same colour as her hair.)

"is it okay if i ask who you are?" i asked, tyler silently chuckled and then he cleared his throat. ms. random looked over at tyler and gave him a dirty look, she then looked back at me and smiled.

"i'm dr. bancroft, i'll be your doctor for the next few weeks," she said. she looked back down at her clipboard.

"wait- next few weeks?" i asked, she nodded her head and i looked up at the ceiling.

"we have to take tests on you, this isn't some weird breathing problem.. it could be cancer," she said. tyler got up from his chair and i heard his shoes stomping on the floor. i continued to stare up at the ceiling. "i'm sorry." she said, i heard her heels click and the door open.

i was alone, in a hospital bed. no one else was in my room. i wanted to get up, i wanted to stand up. but the doctors said, 'it's not good for your lungs.'

screw it.

i sat up and my back hurt, i started to breath in and out, slowly. i slid my legs from under the sheets and i let them hang loosely from the bed, and that's when i realised that i was no longer in my outfit from two days before. i was in a ugly hospital gown. i tried to ignore the ugly design, i then stepped down on the ground and i held onto a the chair that tyler was sitting in. i sat down in it, i got comfortable and i slowly closed my eyes.

"hey, josh!" i slowly opened my eyes and i looked at the door, tyler was standing there. he was holding up two brown bags, and he was walking in. "i got you some taco bell! i also got myself some," he said. he approached me and i stood up. "wait, why aren't you in bed?" he asked, looking at the chair and then me.

"uh, i can still walk. i would also much rather not be laying a bed for three hours," i said. tyler set the bags down on the chair and i walked over and sat down on the side of the bed. tyler scratched the back of his head and then he reached in the bag for a taco, he handed it to me and with shaky hands i grabbed it.

"thanks," i said, i unwrapped it and took a bite out of the hard shell. it was delicious, the meat was warm and the lettuce and cheese were cold.

"no problemo my friend," he said, he took a taco of his own out of a bag and he unwrapped it and took a bite out of it. he groaned and then took another bite.

i took a bite out of mine and it was quiet. we just ate tacos in silence.

it was actually quite nice, i mean what were we supposed to talk about? i wanted to talk and get to know him better, but i didn't know how to ask that without being a stalker.

"so.." i said, it's a start.(?)

"so.. " he replied, taking another bite out of his taco.

"i-"

"do you go to the music college here?" he asked, i nodded my head and he smiled.

"that's why you looked so familiar," he said, i titled my head. confused and lost, i took the last bite out of my taco and i reached into a bag for another one.

"nevermind lol," yes, he actually said 'lol.' i wanted to reply but then the door opened and a female voice said:

"josh, it's time to do the testing."
