Searching and Storms

"Where would he have gone?" Riley asked, trying to calm me down.

I was freaking out. Mason wasn't supposed to be left alone and if he'd left so suddenly, it was because something had made him not want to stay there. Oh god, where was he?!

"How could I have let this happen?" I muttered to myself. I jerked a shaky hand through my tangled hair. What if something had happened to him? I wouldn't be able to forgive myself. I mean, how on earth do you lose a person?!

"Rose!" Riley grabbed my shoulders and forced me to face him. "Calm down and tell me where he might have gone!"

"I don't know!" I cried. I couldn't think. I needed air. I rushed through the hospital, out the front doors and gulped in huge breaths of fresh air.

I heard Riley come out behind me. "Is there somewhere he goes when he's upset or angry?" he asked calmly.

I thought, trying to remember if Mason had ever said anything to me that might tell me where he was. He never left the house except . . . I gasped. "I think I know where he might be!" I exclaimed. "You check at my house in case he went home and I'll look for him."

I left before Riley had a chance to protest. I headed straight for the beach. Hopefully, I was right.

It had started to rain. Heavily. I slipped in the fresh mud again as I ran toward the cliffs above the beach. I couldn't even see a foot in front of my face, much less to the cliff several yards away.

I pushed my long, dripping hair back off my face. It stuck to my face and the back of my neck, rivulets of water streaming down my back.

I slipped a couple more times as I approached the cliff and found it deserted. I swore into the raging wind and allowed the frustrated tears to fall.

I glanced up at the dark grey, clouded sky, ignoring the cold raindrops pelting my face like shards of ice. I pulled out my phone to call Riley, but I couldn't get a signal.

I almost threw the rectangular device into the ocean but stopped myself with the thought that mom would kill me if I did that. I took a few deep breaths, listening to the rain pound into the ground around me. After a few minutes, once I was shivering from the cold, I decided I'd better head home and see if Mason had gone home.

I turned to leave and felt my foot slide on the mud. My heart jumped into my throat as I came dangerously close to the edge of the cliff. But I managed not to fall and sighed in relief, my heart now hammering in my chest.

However, my relief was short-lived. The moment I took my next step, the ground beneath me gave way and my stomach lurched as I began to fall.

Hey, guys! This is my second update today and hopefully, there will be another! I hope you all enjoy it, let me know if you do! I love you all! <3
