(Bryce's POV)
Just before anything could happen, it was as though I could feel the others coming in from the hall. I pushed Ohm away lightly while pulling down his blindfold. Just then, the guys came through the door. Ohm gave an awkward cough while tightening his mask before turning to look at the others.
"Ohm, what is so important that you demanded we come here at almost 2 in the morning?" Evan asked, his voice still rough with sleep. I could basically feel Ohm roll his eyes.
"Oh, my bad. I just though that you guys would like to know that Bryce woke up, but if you're honestly more worried about your beauty sleep, then by all means, don't let me keep you." I chuckled slightly at his sarcasm. The guys stayed silent for a moment before they finally seemed to register what Ohm had said.
"Wait...did you just say that Bryce woke up?" Mini asked. I leaned out from where I was hidden behind Ohm, giving a small wave. The others eyes widened at the sight of me, before they rushed over.
"Bryce, thank god you're okay!"
"Don't ever scare us like that again!"
"What even happened to you?"
Everyone was speaking loudly and at the same time. In all honesty, it was a bit overwhelming, so I just sat in silence, trying to tune out their questions.
"Guys, calm down, can't you see you're stressing him?" Ohm said. I gave him a small grateful smile that he returned with a wink. My face heated up slightly but I tried to ignore it. The others quieted down, allowing for me to think everything over. I heard one of them gasp, taking my right arm in theirs. I looked down, noticing that it was Brock that had my arm, and I inhaled sharply. There, on my arm, was what looked like a fresh tattoo that covered half of my forearm. In the middle was what looked like a bunch of jagged rocks covered in dirt. Surrounding the rocks was a cascade of crystal blue waves, flowing all around them. My heart began to beat rapidly.
"No, no, no. This can't be happening." I mumbled under my breath, but still loud enough for them to hear. They all gave me confused looks.
"What's the matter Bryce? You got your powers now, isn't that what you wanted?" Brian asked. I simply shook my head, too busy staring at my new mark.
"This isn't what I wanted, not these powers. Anything but these powers." I said. The others frowned at my response
"But why? I mean, sure they're difficult to learn at first, but they're great to have. Hell, you saved my life Bryce, thank you for that by the way." Mini spoke up. I sighed, knowing that I'd have to tell them the real reason I didn't want to go to the lake.
"You guys heard the teacher, these powers are gonna cost me a lot of pain and energy. Not just physically, but mentally as well." The guys gave confused looks, but remained quiet so that I could continue.
"Remember how I said that I didn't want to go to the lake with you guys?" They nodded, "Well, there was more to it rather than just not wanting to go." I took a deep breath before proceeding with the story, "when I was about 9 or 10, my family, along with a few of my friends' families, went out camping. Of course, being kids, we waited until our parents were asleep and then snuck out to the woods. We wanted to play hide and seek out there because we thought it would be fun. Unfortunately, I was chosen to be the seeker. While I was wandering around looking for my friends, I heard something behind me. I turned, but there was nothing, so I kept walking. Soon after, I heard the noise again, but this time, when I turned around, there was a creature almost identical to the one that you guys saw back at the lake. Terrified, I took off running, trying to get away from the teacher. But while I was running, I tripped and fell down a hill, straight into a freezing cold lake. I made the mistake of trying to breathe, and so I was drowning. The next thing I knew, I was in a hospital bed, and my friends were never found. That's why these powers are the worst thing I could've gotten." I finished the story with a small shudder. The others stood stunned, processing my story.
"Wow..." Was the main thing I heard from the others.
"That's...terrible, Bryce, but you've been given a gift. You can't just throw it away." Tyler said.
"Well what else do you expect me to talk? I can't even go near a forest without freaking out." I answered. The others looked at each other.
"We're going to help you give over your fear." They said.
