Julie's POV:
I woke up to sniffling. I sat up and looked around at Dakota's Minnie Mouse themed room. Her nightlight was on at her side. I heard another sniffle. It was Dakota, as I thought. She cries in her sleep sometimes. She says it's because she dreams about Darry, Sodapop, or one of the other gang dying. I put my arm around her. She stopped sniffling.
I opened my eyes when I thought I should get up. The sun lit up the room Dakota's room through her curtains. Her room was pretty cool compared to others. Her walls were red with some white polka dots. She had a Minnie Mouse face on the wall her bed was on. Her mom painted that for her when she was just a baby. She had a wooden swing in the middle of her room. Her dad put it up for her on her 4th birthday. She has a bathroom in her room too! A full one! It's all pink. A pink rug, pink shower curtain, pink stickers on her mirror, a pink step stool near her sink, and a pink bottle of soap.
Dakota was still asleep. She doesn't like getting up early. I just laid there since it was still early. I got up as soon as I smelled cake.
It was 11:00 and Dakota was still asleep. The cake wasn't quite done yet. "Hey Julie, go upstairs and make sure that Dakota is still alive." Darry smirked. I smiled and went upstairs. I went into Dakota's room. She was still asleep. One time she slept until 1:30. I shook her shoulder. "C'mon Darry made cake." And she was awake like that. She brushed her hair, got dressed, and ran downstairs.
After cake we played up in her room for a bit. Two-Bit said that Mama wanted me home. I looked at Dakota who didn't seem to mind too much. In fact, as soon as Two-Bit said that she said, "Bye Julie." I chuckled and hugged her. She followed me downstairs. "Are you going too?" I asked Two-Bit. He nodded. "Yeah, but I'm coming back here around 6 and mom wants you to stay home tonight."
"Bye Two-Bit." Dakota smiled. Two-Bit looked behind him. He smiled. "See ya munchkin." He threw an arm around her and brought her up to his waist. I didn't mind that Dakota gets as much as Two-Bit's attention as I do. I think of Dakota as a little sister, like Two-Bit thinks of her as an extra one.Darry had his coat on. "I'm going out for awhile. I won't be back until dinner, I'll bring a pizza or something."
"Can I go?" Dakota asked.
Darry smiled. "Alright, you can go."
Two-Bit put Dakota down so she could get her shoes and jacket.Darry's POV:
I lifted Dakota into the truck. "Where are we going?" She asked.
"A place." I smiled. She smiled and groaned. I chuckled and got in the driver's side. "Just tell me." She begged. "We're going to a couple of stores in different areas." I answered backing out. "What stores?"
"I don't know, just any store I guess."We ended up going into the supermarket. I needed to get some frosting and cake mix. "You should get this one." Dakota smiled getting some pink icing down. "I should get pink?" I asked. "Wait, get this." She got down a green one. "How about one."
"You pick." She held them up to me. I picked green. I honestly didn't care. She held on to the green frosting while I got some other things. "We should get a horse while we're here." Dakota said out of nowhere. I laughed. "Where are going to get a horse here?"
"I don't know, we should get a horse though."
"Why do you need a horse?"
"I love horses." Dakota has been in love with horses since she was 2. Soda's old horse, Mickey Mouse, was basically hers too. "I'll buy one for Christmas."
"Really?!"
"No."
She hit my side, which didn't hurt at all. "Darry!"
I laughed. "What?"
"You're so mean." She giggled.
"You're the one that's making me buy a horse."
Dakota giggled again. "I'm not making you."We passed by the toy section. Dakota glanced over there and kept walking. "Dakota." She looked up at me. "If you want an animal, go ahead and get one." She looked at em with wide eyes. "Really?"
I nodded. She ran back there and not even a second later, she came back with a stuffed koala. I smiled and rolled my eyes.Dakota's POV:
I sat up on my bed. I pulled up my blanket. It was cold in my room....all of a sudden. I wrapped my blanket around my shoulders and left my room. I walked downstairs into the living room. I saw Johnny sitting on the couch. I went over and sat next to him. I put some of my blanket on him. He smiled and put his arm around me. I moved closer to him. Johnny was the kind of person who looked buttoned up, but he's really fun to hang with, and he's perfect for cuddling.
Soon Darry said I had to have a bath. I walked back up the stairs. It was cold in the hallway and my door was closed. I didn't close it. Maybe Darry or Soda did. I opened my door slowly. It wasn't cold anymore neither was the hallway. I got out the pajamas I wanted and sat them on the bed. They weren't folded up, but who cares. I even got out a towel. I went out in the hallway again. I got on the top stairs. "Darry, c'mon!" I heard the boys giggle. I giggled too. I ran back into my bathroom and started to take off my clothes. I noticed that the towel was folded. Did I fold it? I guess I did it so quickly that I don't remember.
After my bath I went into my bedroom. My pajamas were folded. I guess Darry folded them. I put them on and stayed in my room. I looked through some of the newspaper comics I had under my bed. Darry still doesn't know about them. I put them away and got out my Mickey Mouse stuffed animals and my horse stuffed animals. I liked to make Mickey ride horses. It reminds me of when I rode horses at my Grammy's house. Grammy lives out of town. It takes awhile to get to her house from here. I can only ride the horses if it's above 39 degrees. Grammy says the horses get cold if I ride them for too long. There's 5 horses at Grammy's. One is my own miniature horse. She's black and white, so her name is Oreo. I only see Grammy on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Sometimes on her birthday. I don't get to see Grammy for another few months.
I went downstairs. Soda was in the kitchen. Sitting at the dining table eating another slice of pizza. "Where's the rest?" I asked. He looked up. "Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally went out. Darry is on the back porch with Steve and Two-Bit. I'm about to go out there here in a few minutes. " I walked over to him and sat on his lap. I put my head on his shoulder. He chuckled. "You okay sweetie?" I nodded. "I've just been thinking about Grammy."
Soda's POV:
Grammy. That's a name I haven't heard in awhile. "You've been thinking about Grammy?" Dakota nodded. "I miss her."
"I miss her too." Dakota buried her face in my shirt. I smiled. I knew within a few minutes she'd be asleep.
