Dakota's POV:
I got up from the carpet like everyone else and started to go to the art section, until Ms. Racey called me. I walked over to her. There was a girl with her. She had a ponytail just like mine, only her hair was brown. "Dakota, this is Emily. She's new here. Will you show her around and hang out with her today?" She asked. I nodded. "Alright, go have fun you two." She said.
I took Emily's hand and took her to the doll house. "Wanna play dolls?" I asked. Emily nodded. As we picked out dolls, we talked for a minute. "I have Barbies at my house." Emily said digging through the dolls. "Me too." I said while setting up the house. "I also have horses."
I gasped. "Me too."
"You like horses?"
I nodded.
"I never met anyone else who likes horses."
"Me neither." We smiled at each other and began playing. We played outside together, ate lunch together, we did activities together, we did everything together.
Then it was time to go. We sat outside and waited. She and I talked more. "I live with my brothers." I said.
"No parents?" Emily asked.
"They died."
"Oh, that's sad."
"Yeah, so I live with my older brothers."
"That must drive you crazy."
I sighed. "It does."Just then Soda pulled up. "That's my brother." I said. I hugged Emily. "Bye." We both said. Ms. Racey took me to Soda. "I'll see ya tomorrow Dakota." She said. I smiled and waved to her.
I looked around the car. This wasn't ours. "Where did you get this?" I asked. "This girl down at the DX said I could pick you up in her car." I would've teased Soda about having a girlfriend, but after what happened with Sandy, I didn't think I could.
"So, who was that girl?" Soda asked.
"My friend Emily. She's new-" "You're friend? You have a friend that's actually in your class?!" Soda interrupted. I nodded. "Yeah."
"That's awesome!"
"I know. She likes horses and Mickey and dolls and she has two brothers and one sister."
Soda smiled. We got to the DX and I got to meet the owner of the car. "She's just precious, Sodapop." I heard her say when I went into the garage and sat in the hood of a car. All girls say that about me. I don't know why, but they do.
Steve walked by me. "Hi Steve!" I smiled. Steve looked up. I could tell he was frustrated, but he smiled back. "Hey Dakota." He started looking through the tool box. "How do they expect me to fix this by 5? They should've took it in earlier, but no. They couldn't have just rode with their friends." He complained.
"Just say that you couldn't and that they can fix it themselves." Steve smiled again. "Shoot, if I did that I'd get fired."Soda walked in. "Alright, Vanessa's gonna give us a ride home." Vanessa is the girl who said I was precious. "Bye Steve." I said waving before Soda picked me up of the hood of the car. "Bye Dakota."
"See ya man."
"See ya."We got home and it was just me and Soda. We watched TV until Ponyboy and Johnny and Two-Bit got home. Soda got up and went outside with Two-Bit and Johnny. I shifted on the couch to lay down. Ponyboy walked in. "You okay?" I nodded. "I'm just tired." Ponyboy sat down next to me. "Me too." I moved up to him and sat in his lap. I laid my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes.
Ponyboy's POV:
I felt a little awkward having Dakota lay on me, but it's not like she hasn't done it to the whole gang. She does it to Dally and if anyone says anything, he tells them to shut up before he makes them. I allowed it just for this once.
I do love Dakota a lot, but it's kinda hard to say it. If you knew Dakota, and you told her that you loved her, she would use that quote in two different ways. 1.) She would tell the gang. 2.) Anyone that you hang out with, she'll want to come.
Dakota's POV:
I slept for about 45 minutes and then it was time to eat. Darry still wasn't home. "Where's Darry?" I asked Soda. "He had to work late." He simply said. "What's for dinner?" I asked.
Soda shrugged. "Wanna go down to the Dingo?" I nodded very excited. Soda smiled. "Okay then, grab your shoes and get the rest." I nodded and ran upstairs to Ponyboy's room. I remembered to knock this time. "Come in!" A voice yelled on the other side. I opened the door. "Get your shoes. We're going to the Dingo." The rest nodded. I started to shut the door, but Ponyboy called out my name. I turned to him. "Thanks for knocking." He said. I smiled. "No problem." I shut the door and went downstairs. We ate and talked to some other greasers that came by. It was just a normal trip to the Dingo.
When we got home Darry still wasn't there! "Okay Dakota, why don't you head on upstairs and I'll be up there in a bit." Soda said. I was confused. "Go upstairs for what?"
"For your bath, silly."
"Oh." I chuckled. I went upstairs to my room and went in my bathroom. I looked in the mirror. Mommy looked back smiling at me. I smiled too and got out my pajamas. I even got out a towel and a washcloth. Soda came in. "Okay, I don't know how this works. So what do I do?" I looked at my shampoo and conditioner. "You put the shampoo in my hair, then conditioner, and then you leave."
"I leave?"
"Yes, you leave."
Soda shrugged. "Okay."After my bath I got my bed set up and I went down to my playroom. I thought about Emily. She was so nice. I really want her to come over or I could go over to her house. She was my only friend in that class, maybe she'll be my best friend.
