"Y/N? Y/N!"
You woke with a start at the sound of your name being shouted while being violently shook from side to side. You looked around with wet eyes and shaking nerves to find Charlie peering at you through the darkness. Her voice held a certain level of concern and fear.
"Y/N, are you OK?" She whispered. You didn't know. You could feel your body shaking as though you had just re-lived a certain part of your existence you wished you would never think of again.
"I-I don't know." You answered, hardly audible, but she seemed to hear it. Without any words, Charlie moved closer to you and pulled at your waist, having you move onto your side to face her. Putting her left arm between your waist and the bed, she then moved her right hand up to your face, wiping away tears you hadn't noticed until now.
A dark feeling of fear and pain resided deep inside of you and terrified you to your core so much that you wanted to hide, so that's exactly what you did. Taking Charlie by surprise, you pulled the blanket up over you and Charlie, so your entire bodies were hidden. You then slid your arms around her and pulled her closer than before, your head on her chest with your eyes squeezed shut.
You realised you must have made her feel awkward after holding her like this for a good while and began to loosen your grip before you felt her hand clench into a fist and hold you as tight as you were holding her beforehand.
"Stay right there." She spoke softly. "I'll keep you safe."
Your eyes filled to the brim before silently spilling over. You felt a hand move up to your hair and fingers began to card through it as she began to hum a soft tune to you before the words flowed like a calming stream into your ears.
"Garden full of the brightest range of colours, oh the sight is something I know.
Room full of family and friends, hear the laughter, oh this sound is something I know.
Familiar roads with my windows rolled down, oh this smell is something I know,
But you gave life so not the way I thought.
You gave love so not the way I knew...'Cause there is no weeping,
There is no sorrow,
'Cause you're holding me, now
There's no rules to follow.
I know who you are now,
I'm running a different way.
So overwhelmed by you."The song she sang reminded you of one that helped your vessel get to sleep most nights all those years ago. You would hear the tune, but could hardly pay attention to the words. You would be paying more attention to her. Her name was Sophia and for some reason you had been drawn to her since she was born. It was like you were tethered together. Like there was a link. You were intrigued by this immediately and from then on, you would watch over her whenever you had the time. You knew you had to be there for her. Perhaps it was your purpose at the time. You saw it as destiny, but you would never reveal yourself to her. At least, not until they then wanted you down on the ground. "Keeping a closer eye on things downstairs" is what Eraziel had said. You accepted, but knew it would take you a while to find a fitting vessel, then you heard a voice. Her voice. Praying. Sophia was praying for help. She had always been a troubled girl. Mostly an outcast with very few people she would actually call 'friend', which you never understood. The boys took interest in her, but it wasn't what she wanted. She only liked girls and felt uncomfortable around most males.
Hearing her cries for help, you went straight to her. Flying into her room, you found her crumpled up into a corner, bruises on her arms and around her throat. She was shaking and sobbing and screaming in her head. Screaming for help. Any kind of help. You were very uniquely made as an Angel. Always were. You were a healer of sorts. While most vessels that took on angels felt a lot of pain, any vessel that you claimed, would be in significantly less pain than any other. You weren't entirely sure of how this worked, but it did.
You showed yourself to Sophia that night in a dream. You appeared to her as her younger sister whom she had lost a few years before. This brought you pain just using this visage and telling her that you weren't actually her sister. You did, however, know her sister and assured her that she was safe and peaceful before introducing yourself and explaining why you were there.
"I have always been around, watching over you. I have seen you in great joy and in terrible pain, but this seemed different. I am here to help in any way I can." You slowly explained.
Sophia thought for a second before telling you that she just tried to fit in. Tried to force herself to be 'normal'. She went as far as to force herself into a relationship with a boy. She told you that she felt sick the entire time and that he had turned up that same night at her house and forced her into her room. She stopped herself after that. Gritting her teeth and looking down with her eyes scrunched shut.
You approached her and placed your hand on her cheek letting warm and calming wavelengths move through her body.
"You have nothing to be afraid of anymore. I am here." You whispered. She tugged at your arm and held you in a hug. The serenity you had given her, overwhelmed her."I just-I need to be stronger. I need to be more rooted in who I am, but I just don't have the energy anymore." Sophia had explained. This then led to you explaining that you could take over for as long as she wishes. You let her know that the second she wanted out, all she had to do was say so and you would go.
You talked her through what to say when she wants you to leave and how to communicate effectively with you without having her energy deplete too much. Of course, you also told her the basics of yourself, therefore she wouldn't be possessed by a complete stranger, you could see that this made her more comfortable and once she understood everything, she accepted.
"Yes." Her voice was strong, unwavering and she wasn't crying or scared anymore. Both souls lay comfortably together in the same body, becoming stronger in each other and no more than one year later that body contained only one soul, once again.
You could remember how you felt the moment you knew she was gone so vividly. Everything inside of you span. You felt sick. Sick as though you'd been hung upside-down over giant, sharp mechanisms while being swayed side to side. Nothing made sense anymore. Your main reason for existing was gone. Torn from you. All that was left was the maniacal laughter of the sick bastard that did this.
"Zerachiel!!!" You had roared as anger bubbled inside of you like a volcano readying itself for eruption. That was the only time you ever saw him truly terrified, he may have somehow blocked your powers, but if you became filled with enough anger or pain, you would light up like a beacon and he would be discovered instantaneously.
Unfortunately he still had the upper hand. He picked up the Angel blade from beside him and gave your neck a clean cut before extracting your grace into a small vial and putting it into one of his pockets. The next thing you remember was waking up in an alleyway not too far from Sophia's home. You tried going back there only to find it locked and you didn't have the keys or the energy to get in. It was the boys who had found out where your vessel lived and retrieved all of her belongings from the house before taking you to the bunker with them.
You owed them your entire existence and hoped that you could do enough to pay them back."You awake, Y/N?" You heard Charlie's voice float into your ears, bringing you back to the present. You decided to cuddle up to her some more, really needing the comfort right now. You could almost feel her smiling from above you before feeling lips on your forehead. "Goodnight, petal."
Okay, no I can't sleep and yes that was one long-ass chapter. I hope it was better than the fillers I've been giving lately. Anyway, please vote to let others who may like this story see it and also add this story to your library to see when I upload 'cause even I don't bloody know when I upload anymore, this was entirely spontaneous. I obviously don't work well with a schedule!
