"Dad, come on, keep up!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming," called Akaylar as he flew forward, flying nearly over his daughter's head.
"You're so slow," complained Spaw as she flew onto her father's back before she leaped from it and spread her wings once more. She then giggled as she continued forward.
Akaylar rolled his eyes. "Slow, I'm certainly not to the one who is slow. I'm the one who's fast, you're just more spry. There's a difference."
"Whatever," barked Spaw with a roll of her eyes. "Are you going to stay with mother and I?"
Akaylar's eyes flickered as he met his daughter's gaze as Spaw flew over to him. "Um, I don't think that that's a good idea, little one. I think that it would be better if we didn't."
"I feel like you never come home anymore," complained Spaw as she looked down at her paws.
Akaylar licked her cheek. "Tell you what, there's a special flight that you can take as a wolf like us. It's sort of like warp speed, but not as fast. Still pretty fast. Anyway, if you fly a special way you can come across it fairly easily. It's not too hard."
"Can you show me how to get there," asked Spaw with excitement shinning in her eyes.
Akaylar dipped his head. "I believe so, but don't quote me on that. Now, you need to angle your wings back, pull in your paws to your chest and stomach as far as they can go before you explode forward, thinking about the best possible thing you can. Then, get ready to fly as fast as you can."
"Okay. Okay. I got this. I got this." She then spread her wings and held them at the special angle like her father had showed her. She pulled her paws up to her chest with her hind legs drawn upward as well. She let out a few breaths before she thought of the happiest moment in her life as she surged through the sky.
She began to see the sky streak by her as she picked up speed. She was suddenly caught in a slower form or warp, or at least what she thought. Her happy thought coursed through her, but it didn't last too long. She suddenly let out a whimper as she wasn't able to keep the memory and the fear took over.
She let out a wail as she plummeted down, crying for her father. Her paws stretched out before she felt herself collide with something soft. At least it was sort of soft and smelled of pine and oak.
Akaylar darted forward in the sky before he landed and bounded up to his daughter. "Spaw! Are you alright? That was a nasty fall!"
Spaw lifted her head and shook out her fur. She then leaped beside her father and allowed him to check her over. "I'm fine, dad. I just lost the memory."
"Yes, that happens and then you plummet. But, you just need to find an even stronger one and then just focus on only that and you'll be fine," Akaylar reassured as he licked her between the ears.
Spaw sighed. "I know. I was so close!"
"You'll get it," chided Akaylar before he heard church bells sound. He swore under his breath as he rushed to his paws. "Oh, darn, we're late! Your mom's going to have my hide if we're late."
"Then we better race," Spaw joked as she darted forward, leaving her father in the dust. However, he was right behind him. He easily passed her as they continued forward as they pelted forward.
"Come on, you're falling behind," called Akaylar as they made their way through Starfleet headquarters, at least the one on earth. This is where they lived before they would head off on Starfleet missions. However, Spaw had never been able to come on any of the missions yet. She was just waiting for her mother or her father to invite her, but that hadn't happened yet.
