Kenya flew by the "Welcome to Texas" sign, a frown still planted on her face. Her nightmares had been getting worse, and she couldn't find it in herself to sleep. Every night, she'd see that demonic dog. It was angry, and it was inflicting on her the one emotion she wasn't familiar with.
Fear.
Kenya looked down at her gas meter and noticed the arrow was pointing to close to empty. She needed to refuel; to make it to her destination by sundown. Kenya took the closest ramp and drove around for the nearest gas station, spotting one in Small, Texas. The gas station was sitting next to a quiet little coffee shop. The werewolf pulled into the empty fuelling station and went inside to pay for enough gas to completely fill up her tank. She looked around and grabbed a map, putting it on the counter and asking the man tending the cash register, "What's the quickest way to get to Archer City?"
The man rose an eyebrow. "If you're lookin' for trouble, then take three fifty west straight outta town." He opened up the map and pointed to the spot on the map. "If traffic picks up, it'll take you a good four hours to get there. But if traffic is light, maybe three and a half hours. Either way, I'd stop by Al's down the street before getting back on the road." Kenya cocked an eyebrow. "Pick up a gun and ammo, protect yourself out there. Some of the people out there are thugs," He warned the paranormal, which only caused Kenya to smirk, knowing that she had a shotgun and an arsenal already in her trunk.
"Thanks, but I think I'll be fine." Kenya bought the map and walked out to her car, noticing a woman looking closely at the vehicle. The lycan cautiously approached her. "She's a beauty, I picked her up in Memphis a few years back." More so like forty seven years ago.
The woman peered up and smiled. "How much did the previous owner run you for it?"
The woman was older, about in her early fifties, and had darker skin and a calming southern accent. Kenya smiled, knowing that she was the one and only owner of this car. She met the older woman and crossed her arms with a smile.
"Maybe a few thousand," Kenya lied, "I had to tune her up, but she's runs pretty well."
"She?"
"Her name is Stella."
"Oh." Kenya awkwardly nodded and the woman went around inspecting the car. "Well she is beautiful. I'm not tryin' to buy Stella off of you, I'm just a bit nosy."
"It's fine, take a good look at her if you'd like." Kenya opened up the front door and popped the gas cover open. Kenya grabbed the hose for the gas and began pumping it into her Camero.
"You jus' passin' through?" The woman asked. Kenya rose an eyebrow, noticing that the woman was indeed very nosy.
"Yeah. I gotta get back on the road. I just needed to get this old girl a drink, and then I needed a cup of coffee before heading to Archer City."
"What's in Archer City?" She questioned. Kenya didn't like all the mysterious woman was asking. "Sorry, there I go pryin' again." She pointed to the cafe next door. "Joe's got a great cup of coffee and great food, but you really could use a hotel. You look exhausted," The woman observed, fixing her country-style dress, then adjusting her sun hat.
"Thanks, but like I said, I have a long way to go. I can't afford to stop," Kenya informed her, "But I will grab a cup of coffee before I go."
"Well alright. Good luck on your trip, hun." And with that, the woman nodded and walked off.
Soon after, the man from the cash register came running out and calling out to Kenya, a receipt in his hand. The werewolf pulled out the hose and put it back in its holster.
"Ma'am, you forgot this."
"Oh, thanks," The lycan twin stated while grabbing the small paper from the man and nodding in the direction of the woman walking down the street, "Who is she?" The wolf wondered.
"No idea," The man answered, "I haven't seen her around before." Kenya narrowed her eyes and opened her car door, getting in.
"What about that cafe over there?" She pointed next door.
"If you're lookin' to get drunk, go right in, but Jo's got the worst food. It's a good thing he turned it into a bar, otherwise he would have gone outta business." Kenya realized that she was targeted, that woman wasn't even from this town. The lycan wondered if the demon sent this woman to track her down and follow her, but no, he couldn't have.
It didn't matter. All that mattered was Kenya getting to Archer City by night fall. The wolf started up her car and rolled down her window. "Please be careful in Archer," The cashier pleaded, "It's dangerous."
"Thanks, but trust me, when I get there, they'll wish they'd been more prepared for me." With that, Kenya zoomed off.
In a few hours with a sufficient amount of traffic, Kenya was coming upon the exit leading to Archer City and pulled into the nearest motel. She got out and ventured into the lobby of the motel, walking up to the woman leaning on the counter and chewing gum. Kenya didn't notice the closed up purple flower on the back desk as she pulled out her wallet and grabbed her credit card.
"I need a room for two weeks," The lycan twin disclosed with a frown on her face.
"Just a single?" The woman took the card and typed it into her small computer, then swiped Kenya's card and returned to to its owner.
"Yeah, just one bed," Kenya agreed, then looked outside to see a few people staring at her through the glass. She kept her head down while waiting for the woman to give her the room key. The woman reached up for the board where all the keys hung and noticed the purple flower open up and glow. The receptionist turned around and handed the unsuspecting wolf her room keys.
"Hey," The receptionist called out, stopping the she wolf in her tracks, "You look familiar." Kenya glanced back over her shoulder, keeping her distance from the desk. "Do I know you?"
"No, I don't think so," Kenya replied while turning back around and heading to her car, then riding around the complex to find her room. Meanwhile, the receptionist picked up the phone and dialed a number. It took one ring before someone answered.
"It better be important." The person stated, that purple flower was an old trick for human hunting trick. The flower was subtle and barely had a scent for paranormals to recognize. That one plant could indicate a paranormal in the surrounding area, and in that moment it outed Kenya's identity.
"It's one of them," The receptionist whispered into the microphone, leaning to the side and watching Kenya find her room and turn her car off. She watched as the car was turned off and Kenya got out, grabbing her bags out of the back and trudged into her motel room, closing the door behind her.
