Bal: a King and his queen

Interruptions

~ FYI CM is short for council member cuz they're not particularly important to the story so names aren't needed ~
*Two days later they're sat in the gardens playing around and having some fun when suddenly a pair of Ben's secret service agents appear*
Mal: what's going on?
Ben: I don't know, they only show up when I'm needed somewhere
Mal: Ben?!
*the agents come up to them and Mal grabs onto Ben's arm, having the distinct feeling she knows what this is about*
Agent 1: your highness you're needed at the council chambers immediately
Agent 2: my lady, we're here to wackier you to your chambers
*mal just clutches tighter to bend arm thinking no way in fuck was she leaving him*
Ben: what exactly is going on
Agent 1: your highness?
Ben: why am I needed in the council chambers and why are you escorting Mal to her chambers
Agent 2: that's above our pay grade and her clearance
Ben: her clearance is higher than yours significantly
Agent 2: sir we are just doing as we have been ordered to do
Mal: Ben? What's going to happen?
Ben: nothing babe, you're gonna come with me and we'll find out what the hell was worth interrupting my time with the prettiest girl in the whole wide world
*he was throwing in as many compliments as he could in an attempt to distract her but it wasn't working*
Agent 1: but your highness our orders are to take her to her room
Ben: and I'm the king so I'm giving you new orders
Agent 1: of course
Ben: come on Mal, let's go
*he gives her hand a little squeeze and her a little smile trying to make her feel better by her clutch on his arm refuses to loosen, they walk hurriedly to the council chambers with their two escorts which Ben is rather close to just telling to back off, as soon as they arrive Ben just waltzes straight in causing the councils chatting to fall into silence , Ben strides in confidently with Mal awkwardly on his arm, she lets go as he nonchalantly grabs a chair from the side of the room and puts it next to his, making a point of put it down with a thud, he sits in his chair in the middle of the main table and Mal takes her seat at his side, everyone had been staring and he was well aware of it but he absolutely did not care*
Ben: okay so would someone care to tel me why I'm here when there's no meeting scheduled for today and I know there isn't because I specifically blocked today out to start wedding planning with Mal so what exactly is happening that's requiring this?
*bens temper being far from in check*
CM1: we have received word that Maleficent is arming the islanders for an attack on the magic barrier
CM2: when she does attack it, if successful she has made a vow that she will rule auradon and let evil reign.....and....
Ben: and?
CM3: she has sworn that her first act as the new leader of auradon will be to begin her reign of darkness and terror with the death of the person she sees as her truest enemy
Ben: so she wants to kill me?
Mal: no offence Ben but you over estimate your value in my mother's eyes
Ben: then who?
*right as he says it the penny drops*
Mal: me
*she finds all eyes in the room upon her*
CM4: yes my lady, you
*mal tries not to look shaken as Ben's temper rises at the threat against his future wife, Ben grabs her hand for support but soon realised she's already iced over*
Mal: it's okay Ben, I'm fine, it's not like it's the first time she's threatened to kill me, there's no magi on the isle, what makes you think she can actually break the barrier?
CM1: the barrier is very weak, fairy godmother and all of the other fairies have already put everything they can into it but it just wasn't enough to replenish it, it's been growing weaker ever since the incident at the coronation, no one has any more magic to give to it
Ben: what are you saying?
CM5: we're saying that we need to be prepared for the possibility, one well aimed pulse of energy could bring the whole thing down
Mal: oh my god
Ben: what?
Mal: it's been broken like that before, well broken may be a strong word, Carlos and Evie, they did that, sent a burst of energy through the barrier by accident days before we left, they were trying to get new TV channels and they accidentally punched a hole in the dome, there was enough magic let my mothers forbidden fortress come to life until the spark was spent, the isle of the doomed came alive
Ben: what?!
CM6: we may need to prepare ourselves your highness, you two should be put under guard, you both have many enemies on that island
Mal: what if someone else could help restore the magic barrier?
CM7: but as we said there is no one left with the power it would take
*mal stands up and shuts her eyes, when she opens them they flash green and a sudden storm rages over auradon city, upon doing the same again the weather returned to the usual sunshine, all HE council members begin whispering to each other until finally one of them speaks properly*
Ben: no Mal it's too dangerous, you're extremely powerful but you can't control it properly, something could go wrong and you're only half fairy
Mal: can I speak to you outside for a second please
*knowing he's in trouble he nods and they step outside*
Mal: Ben I'm not a child! I can make my own decisions! If I do this then people are more likely to trust me whereas if I don't when I could then they'll think I want this!
Ben: Mal it's not safe for you!
Mal: Ben! You've got to start thinking as a king not my fiancé!!
Ben: can't I of both?!
Mal: no! So separate the two and get yourself together!
*she turns away and marches back in*
Mal: do you think I could do it?
CM8: yes
Mal: then I'm doing it
Ben: Mal....
Mal: don't Ben, please just don't, if I'm gonna be the queen of this kingdom then I need to protect it, you would give anything including your life to save this kingdom, you can't because you don't have magic, I can because I do
Ben: okay then, how would this work
CM4: she would be given the spell by fairy godmother but she must do it alone
Ben: alright, put the whole kingdom on lockdown, everyone must remain inside until this is over, get fairy godmother here and get this over with
