Chapter 19/The duel

Trixie held tightly to her seat belt. The sky palace above shrank quickly like someone letting the air out of a ballon. To her right was the large cloud of aircraft dog fighting and beyond that the Kingdom's Navy.

Kitty looked in her mirror and saw Trixie behind her.

'What are you doing here! It's too dangerous' shouted Kitty.

'I'm here to help' Trixie shouted.

'You could have helped by staying in the sky palace. Just stay in your seat and hang on' Kitty shouted back.

Trixie looked out from her seat, she was sitting back to back with Kitty. In front of her was a machine gun pointing backwards.

'The alliance planes are loosing' Kitty said.

'Look' said Trixie tapping on Kitty's right shoulder.

Then from some dark clouds to the north the pirate fleet of aircraft appeared and attacked the Navy as well. Captain Spinner's ship lead the charge towards the Navy ships. To her left was the alliance fleet getting close. Kitty had spotted Harold and the plane dived. She followed him down.

'He should have stayed on the level. Flat his plane is faster than mine, but diving I have the advantage.' said Kitty.

Looking back Trixie saw that they were now being followed by three Navy seaplanes. One was being flown by Uncle Richard.

Trixie tried to shout at Kitty but the noise of the engine was too loud. Then Richard's plane began to shoot at them. Trixie held up the machine gun and pulled the trigger. This got Kitty's attention, who started weaving left and right to avoid being hit. Trixie tried to fire again she missed when Kitty turned hard. Trixie fired and this time managed to hit one of the Navy planes' engines. Smoke came out of it's engine. It pulled up, leaving the other two on their tail.

'Did I do that?' said Trixie impressed with her self. Trixie tried to shoot again but the bullets ran out or the gun jammed and nothing happened.

They were close to the ground and Harold pulled up. Trixie thought Kitty was going to crash into the streets then at the last moment she pulled up and started flying through the City. Richard and the others plane, flew through the streets after her. It was narrow, the buildings tall so they started to twist from street to street. Kitty flew so low Trixie could see the faces of the people they passed. Street signs rattled as they flew by. Then the Navy planes and Richard started firing at her. Katie found herself flying towards a large building at the end of the street. She turned that the last moment and lead navy plane flew into the building. Kitty then dived in to the old River which went through the middle of the city. She flew under the bridges. She followed the river out of the city down an old river bed which had cut a deep channel towards the mountains at the island's heart. Harold now turned round joined the uncle Richard. Uncle Richard had Kitty in his machine gun sights. Trixie could even see the smile on his face pushed the fire button. He started firing and just then another red plane came shooting over them firing at Uncle Richard. Uncle Richards plane started to smoke and it's engine splutter. Uncle Richard was hit and he turned to the fields near by to land. The red bi-plane got closer and Trixie could see Fox Oswald was flying it.

It was Harold's turn now. Trixie tried desperately to fix the machine gun mostly by hitting it. A head there was a huge tree truck on it's side stuck like a bridge over the river. Kitty fired at it and then dived underneath. The tree began to move and Harold pulled up. Trixie held on for her life as Kitty did a loop the loop. Trixie felt pushed into her seat at first but then near the top of the loop felt like she was going to fall out. She looked up and saw the ground and the river above her. Above in the river looked a very surprised looking Harold. Pulling out of the loop Kitty was behind Harold. Kitty fired two neat shots at Harold's plane and his engine started leaking oil. Harold knew he was done. He pulled up and his plane climbed out of the channel. They flew slowly back to the city and with the last drops of fuel landed. Head bowed, Harold gave him self up.
