Don't Forget Me

{chapter 12: uh oh.}

{Nathan's POV} << ooh dang

Benjamin Hayes Grier. He's the one. He stole my Skylar and ruined her. And I'm gonna do something about it, I'm gonna get Skylar back no matter what it takes. I've known her my whole life and I was not gonna let this guy she barely met 2 months ago take her away from me. The first day of junior year is tomorrow, and I have plans. I can get her back.

{Hayes' POV}

Tomorrow is my first day of school at a brand new school and I'm a little nervous to be honest. Hopefully I'll make friends fast. It looks like the first day of school is supposed to be rainy, which is never a good sign. I was just about to go to take a shower when my doorbell rang. Nash wasn't home so I went to go answer it. I opened the door and saw a guy about my height wearing a black hoodie and khakis. His hair was kind of spiked up and it was light brown.

"Are you Hayes Grier?" He asked aggressively. "Uh yeah, bro if you want an autograph, nows not really the time, I have a big day tomor-" He cut me off by yelling and coming closer to me. "I don't want your autograph, idiot. Are you the one that's been screwing Skylar?" He said, grabbing me by my shirt. "I'm not screwing her, she's my girlfriend." I said, kind of scared. "Your what?!" He yelled.

"My girlfriend." I said quietly. He threw me up against my door and yelled at me. "Listen to me, Grier. If you know what's good for Skylar, you're gonna leave her alone. She's not meant to be with you. She doesn't love you. She doesn't care about you so stop trying. If you don't leave her alone, I'll hurt her, and I know that's your biggest weakness." He said, with the anger of a thousand suns shining in his dark brown eyes.

I couldn't speak, all I could do was nod. I couldn't put Skylar in that danger. If I love her, I have to let her go. Nathan let go of me and said, "I'll be watching you, Grier." And with that, he got into his Lexus and drove away. I couldn't even move from where I was, I just fell to the ground and sat there, right against my door, as the rain started to pour.

I didn't leave that spot for an hour and when I went back inside, I was dripping wet. I sat on my couch and thought about her. How could I possibly live without her? Sure, she says I'm her world, but she's my sun. Without her, I'm lost in space, with nothing to orbit around and call home. I always tell her I loved her more, and the next few times I see her, the words will almost slip out of my mouth. And I'll try and just be friends but I can't help but tell her how beautiful she is, and holding her hand feels too right for it to be casual. And my heart clenches at the thought of her being with anybody else.

But if you really love someone, you should want them to be happy.

Even if you wind up being left out.

{Skylar's POV}

I've texted Hayes 14 times and he hasn't responded. What is going on? Maybe he just lost his phone, but I'm kind of disappointed we won't get to show up to school together. I got all dressed up because it's the first day back at school and I want to look good for my junior year. I have a feeling today is gonna be a great day.

I wore high waisted ripped Levi jeans, a white shirt, and a gray knit cardigan. My hair was loosely curled and it looked good because I just cut it. (fresh cut, lol I'm a dork) I drove to Dutch bros. and got a blue raspberry blue rebel because boy am I tired. I drove to school and walked in, looking around for my favorite person on this earth. Heck, he is my earth.

I walked around a bit but couldn't find him anywhere. I started to get worried so I called him. He wouldn't answer his phone. I went down one of the halls where my old locker was, and I heard ringing. I turned a corner, and Hayes was standing there, holding his phone and watching me it ring. He just stared at it.

"Hayes, how come you haven't answered any of my calls?" I said, running towards him. Something was definitely wrong. I looked at his bloodshot eyes and looked to my left. Nathan was standing at the other end of the hall. "Skylar, we can't see each other anymore." He said. My heart dropped. "What? What's wrong Hayes, we can work it out, whatever it-"

"I don't love you anymore." He said. I blinked back a tear. He wouldn't even look at me. And without another word, he walked away, and I sunk to the ground and watched him, as my vision got blurry and he suddenly turned into a blur.

{Hayes POV}

As I walked away, I couldn't help but look back at Skylar. She was sitting on the ground in tears and I broke down too, but kept walking. Whatever it takes to keep my girl safe.
