{Skylar's POV}
Hayes is inside of my house. MY HOUSE. I don't know why, but I decided let him inside. We were here sitting on my living room couch as if nothing had ever changed. "So, how was school?" I asked trying to break the ice. "Good, boring as usual." He replied blankly. We weren't even looking at each other. "What about you, how was the sick life?" He asked me.
"Also very boring. It's just been me and Netflix all day." I said. I don't like this. We're acting like we don't even know each other. We used to be best friends and know each other backwards and forwards and now I feel like a stranger is sitting next to me. There was an awkward silence, and then Hayes broke it by saying, "So we should work on this project?" This time he looked me in the eyes when he talked. I nodded in agreement. I couldn't even speak. His eyes were so piercing and made me sad. I missed those eyes.
"Let me go grab my backpack really quick." I said, standing up. I walked into my kitchen and took a deep breath. I grabbed my backpack from the jacket hook and adjusted my sweatpants. I probably look terrible, my hair is in a messy bun and I'm wearing sweat pants and a tee shirt. I walked back into the living room and Hayes was on his phone.
"So what even is the project on?" I asked, sitting down again. There was a lot of space between us. He started explaining but I didn't pay attention. All I could think about was Hazel and how quickly he moved on. He finished talking and it was quiet for a bit.
"So you're with Nathan now?" He asked me. He looked at me again. I couldn't look at him. "Y-yeah. And you're with Hazel?" I asked, looking over at him. "Yup." He said. It was silent again.
{Hayes POV}
Maybe this is for the best. She's with Nathan and she's safe and I have a good girl too, it's probably better this way. "Okay, well I should get going, I have practice." I said, standing up, and handing her the paperwork for the project. When I passed the papers, our hands touched. She looked up at me with her beautiful eyes. She looked so hurt.
I felt bad, but remembered Hazel. I quickly moved my hand and walked towards the door. I opened it, said bye, and left. As I pulled out of the driveway, I felt something sting in my chest. I pushed it away and drove away. I kept telling myself, "It's better this way." I drove to the school and showed up to practice.
My day went on as if nothing had just happened. When I got to my apartment, I was about to unlock the front door when I heard laughter. It sounded like a girl. Nash? I opened the door and walked inside. A girl with curly brown hair was sitting on the couch next to Nash. It was the same girl from his fridge picture. They turned around while laughing still. "Hi! You must be Hayes." She said standing up.
"Ah you must be Alana, the girlfriend." I said, putting my keys on the counter and walked towards the couch. "Yup, I guess that's me." She said, giggling. "How was your day, Hayes?" Nash asked. "Eh." I said, plopping onto the couch. "Why is that?" He continued, "Skylar stuff?" My mind flashed back to this afternoon. "Yeah." I said, looking down.
"Who's Skylar?" Alana said, facing me. "My ex-girlfriend." I said, looking over to her. "Oh, sorry. Did you guys break up today or something?" She asked. "No, actually we broke up a few weeks ago." I said. "Oh, I'm sorry. How long were you together?" She asked me. Nash had stood up and walked into the kitchen for food.
"Only about a month." I said. "Oh so probably not too serious then?" She asked. "Actually it was really serious. I liked her a lot." I said. It kind of hurt to talk about her. "Why'd you break up? If it's not too personal." She asked. This girl likes questions. "Yea, what actually happened? I don't think you ever told me." Nash said, walking back from the kitchen, with a bag of hot cheetos in his hand.
