{Skylar's POV}
BEEP BEEP BEEP
I stared at my dreadful alarm clock, which said 6:00 am. I slapped my alarm clock, realizing that today was the last day of swim team for the season. It was always nice having all of August off, so then I didn't have to wake up so early until school starts.
I put my swimsuit on and realized what had happened last night. I kissed Hayes Grier. (and I loved every second of it) I never thought I would ever kiss to someone famous, or even so much as talk to them, but wow am I glad I did.
I snuck into Avery's room and tapped her on the shoulder. "A! Wake up it's time for swimteam!" I whisper-yelled as I shook her until her eyes fluttered open. "Five more minutes!" she yelled back and slapped the top of my head. "Aves, it's the last day of swim team! And your ballet recital!!" I said, hoping to convince her. "Really?!" she said standing up, startling me. "Yeah! Now get ready!"
I went back down stairs to wake up the twins, but of course, they were already awake and ready. What great kids. I put on some sweatpants over my swimsuit and one of my sisters basketball tee shirts. I grabbed my keys as soon as they were all ready, and got in the car.
By the time we were all in my car and situated, it was 6:15. Perfect. I plugged my phone into the aux cord and played Shawn Mendes. Avery was sitting in the seat next to me and singing loud with me. "AND THE AFTERTAASTE!! Avery's little voice belted out.
"Shut up!!" Jonah screamed. "Come on, Jo, you know you like it!" I said. "No I don't! Turn it off!!" Jonah screamed even louder over Avery's voice. Then, Avery turned up the music even louder than it already was and starting singing louder, which I didn't even know was possible. I high-fived her and sang with her. My little sister is falling in my footsteps.
We pulled into the parking lot in front of the pool, and I parked my car. Jonah and Weston bolted out of the car with their towels and Weston even brought a pool noodle. I always loved the last day of swim team because it was just a free swim, so we didn't have to swim our usual laps.
I walked onto the pool deck and found Peyton sitting on the usual pool bench we always sit at before practice starts, on her phone. I snuck next to her and said, "Hey Peyton!" She didn't say anything. "Pey!" I yelled. "Wha- oh hey, Sky, how's life?" she said and yawned while putting her phone down.
"Whatcha doing there, huh?" I asked. She seemed secretive about her phone. "Oh, ya know, scrolling throw Instagram, texting Ryan, snap chattin-" she covered her mouth as soon as she realized what she said. "Oooh!! Texting Ryan!!" I said as I nudged her shoulder.
"Who said anything about texting Ryan, what the heck?" she acted 'confused'. "Suuure." I said rolling my eyes. Just then, Nathan plopped down next to me. I considered rolling my eyes again. I liked him a bit, and he liked me too. I must admit, he's really cute. But I need something deeper than this, something with more meaning.
"Hey, Skylar." he said, casually pretending to yawn and putting his arm around my shoulder. How immature. "Hello there." I said, uncomfortably. I heard Peyton awkwardly cough off to the side. This was kind of weird, considering my lips had just touched the lips of someone else, someone far better, just last night.
I smiled at the thought, and then remember the situation I was in right now. Just then, Coach Molly stood up and told everyone to stretch. I immediately stood up and rushed to the center of the pool deck. I wanted to get away from Nathan, and fast. Usually, I wouldn't want to leave his arms, but this time, even though Hayes and I aren't together, I feel like I'm cheating on him.
I touched my toes and stretched my legs until Molly told us to get ready to swim. I pulled off my sweatpants and tee shirt and threw my long, straight hair up into a messy bun. I grabbed my cap and goggles and put them in my swimsuit strap to hold them. I walked over to the 7th lane with Peyton, and Nathan managed to catch up with us.
She was making us swim a warm up and then we would have free time. Peyton helped me get my black cap on and I slipped on my goggles. I dove into the cold water and began swimming freestyle. I was so glad we only had to swim a 200 meter freestyle. (that's 4 laps in a 50 meter pool)
As soon as I was finished with my 200 freestyle, I was one of the first ones done besides Nathan. He was barely faster than me. I slipped off my cap and goggles and pulled my hair out of the bun. I got my hair wet and it was back to its long form again. "Your hair looks shiny." Nathan said awkwardly. Oh gosh. "Thanks?" I said.
We sat in silence for a bit, leaning against the edge of the pool and watching everyone else swim. "What's up with you? You've been acting weird today.." Nathan said out of nowhere. "Oh. Umm nothing." I said. Shoot, that wasn't convincing at all. "Okay sure. What's really up?" He asked.
What do I say? I can't just be like 'I don't like you.' "Umm, well I think... we should see other people.." I said. "But I thought we were actually going somewhere with this...?" He said. Well he should've thought that last night....
Just then, Peyton came out of the water, to my rescue. "Hey guys! What's wrong with your face, Nate?" Way to save the awkward moment, Pey. I shook my head at her. "Oh, would you look at the time. We should probably get out now." She said pretending to look at a watch and hopping out of the pool.
She is so horrible in these situations.
