Elaine's POV

"Ela are you there? Can you hear me?" My mum's voice made my blood cold as I was too embarrassed to talk with her even though she had not known the fact yet.

"Oh! Yeah mum. I can hear you. So what's up?" said I in an ordinary tone.. As my voice seemed to be relaxed, Kay left the room giving me privacy to have the conversation with my mum.

"How is your work going on?"

"Well.. It's going good. By the way how is Elmer? Is his studies okay?" I asked adding normality to my already jittered voice hoping that she would not catch me off guard.

"Yes baby girl. All are fine.. And the best part is that he was selected to the school basket ball team." I felt the happiness in her voice.

"Oh wow! That's really amazing mum. Give my love to him."

"Yeah. Sure... By the way I just want to tell you an important thing..Ela." now it was her voice which felt so jittered to me much to my surprise.

"An important thing? Sure mum.. do tell me..!" As I said there was a stunned silence on the other side of my mom. I literally felt the tension build up as she didn't response at once.

"Mum.. You okay? What's the problem? Did someone bother again about the debt things?" A wave of eager ran across my body.

"Um.. No.. Not that... Baby can you please, come over here tomorrow?" She asked taking me aback all of a sudden.

"Tomorrow? Why this sudden?" I was confused.

"It's a very important thing... Don't say no...." she said in a pleading tone.

"Mom..How can I come that soon? You could have told me two three days ago. I have my work tomorrow..."

Is it the real reason why you don't want to see your mum? My inner voice mocked me.

"Yeah! I know baby. I am sorry. But this is very important."

"Can't you tell it over the phone...?" Said I in a pleading tone.

"Um not probably. You have to be here. Well. Don't skip this.right? Inform me when you are coming?"

"Hmm. Right..." I said in a broken voice not able to find my next words...

What shall I do now?

I threw the phone onto my bed and perched myself on the edge of the bed face palming. An ill feeling was taking over me making my stomach churn with the worry.

After a while I came out of the room freshening myself up. The smell of crispy grilled cheese sandwich came from the kitchen increased my appetite... As I went in kitchen Kay was making a milk shake for me. "You feel hungry?"

"Yeah. Very." Said I placing myself on the chair at the table. As I sat Kay placed my meal on the table. The aroma of sandwich hit my nostrils making me moan with hunger...

"Oh! That's too weird." Came a reply next to me and I turned my head to see Kay looking at me with a grin on her face crossing her hands over her chest. Giggled, I started to eat the sandwich in one breath.
