*6 months later*
"Hurry up Shadow! You can run faster than that and if we ever want to actually catch those rogues we'd better step on it" I half whispered half shouted over to Peter.
"Coming Red. You know you don't always have to be so bossy" he complained while crouching down to catch his breath. "Just because you can run for a really long time doesn't mean everyone else can"
"Alright alright stop the moaning, now are kicking some butt or what?!" I said slightly louder than I probably should have.
In case your wondering, we're on a mission to round up some rogues who have overstepped the boundaries with humans. Me and Peter graduated from the academy about 6 months ago while Josie, Lilly and India finished last month and joined our team. Lilly being our ICT person and India and Josie helping us. Because we graduated together we all became a team more or less, now working for the best assassin company in the country. Me and Peter are both on the top ten assassins in the world with me being at the top, hence why I'm in charge here (or at least supposed to be!).
We're currently sitting in a tree waiting for some rogues to come and join us for a 'civilised conversation'. The reason Peter is out of breath is because we've been running to catch up with them for about an hour and are both ready to go home and fall asleep."When are they going to get here, I thought you said that they were just coming?!" Mumbled Peter.
"I did, now stop mumbling and quit with the faffing. Trees aren't meant to be comfortable, that's why you don't live in one. Shhh, I think I hear something" I said, suddenly hearing some voices approaching us.
"I can't see anything because of this stupid darkness, why'd we have to come out at night anyway. I don't hear any-" Peter started before he was interrupted.
"That was a long night eh Dan, why'd we have to grab those human girls anyway." We hear someone say so I looked down through that gaps in the tree and saw two men standing underneath. Both had scraggly hair and stank of what rogues usually smell of - days old fish with mouldy cheese are the most common smells. One was taller and the other one who spoke was obviously the stupid one. Best to eliminate him quickly first.
"You asshole, what'd ya think, we're going to play tea parties with them?!" Tall one said while smacking his partner on the head.
"On the count of three pounce. I got the tall one, use guns and swords" I hurriedly whispered for fear of them hearing us but they were way to busy arguing to notice.
"One"
"How dare you call me an asshole!"
"Two"
"We'd better get going, wouldn't want to miss the fun"
"THREE"
We jumped down from the tree and landed in our feet. "Wouldn't want to miss the fun now would we gentlemen"
"No miss" the smaller one stuttered.
"That's it, now drop the weapons and let's keep this simple shall we. Shadow, tie 'em up" I stated.
"With pleasure Red" he replied after fishing out the silver rope we always keep on us.
"What? Red as in the best assassin?" Stuttered the stupid one.
"Yep that's me" I answered scaring the life out of him. Peter walked over to that one and tied him up good and proper. While that was happening I kept my eye on the tall one. In a split second choice he turned and sprinted off.
"Why do they always have to make the job hard. I could fall dead from lack of sleep right now!" And with that I took off running after him. I kept a steady pace behind the rogue, leaving a couple of meters. We ran for a couple of miles before he tired out and turned around to face me. He shifted into his wolf, which for the record smelt and looked even worse than the human version.
^Agreed!^ my creatures said.
The wolf started growling at me and circling. After a few lame attempts I got bored and lunged at him. I caught his neck and let my nails lengthen, leaving me with a set of deadly claws. In a second his head was off his body and rolling around in the floor. "Job done in a way" I said with my own sarcastic humour as I started the long walk back to base.
'Meet you back at base with the rogue' I mind linked Peter so that I didn't have to go and meet him.
'Alright Red, see you in the morning' knowing that I would just conk out once I got to my room. And that's exactly what I did.
