"Come in." Said a voice from the other side of the door. I opened the door and stepped inside.
"Justin." I ran to my brother's side. "Are you okay?""I'm fine MK" He looked tired and he was probably hasn't gotten any sleep for awhile. He sat up and looked at me in the eyes. "How was school?"
I pulled a chair up and sat down beside his bed. "It was fine, met some people." I looked him over. "What happened to you?"
He put his hand on my chin and turned my head so I'd look him in the eyes. "My friends were fooling around, apparently I went unconisous, and got a few scratches here and there. I got involved with out knowing.. Don't do that okay MK?"
I swallowed hard. "Never." I looked him in the eyes. "I'll try my best."
He put his hand down and he looked around. "Luckily I didn't get the worst of it....." He turned back to me. "How's Mom?"
"She's a whole lot better, she made dinner." I held Justin's hand, and looked at some of the scratches. "Will you be home tonight?"
He tightened the grip on my hand. "Hopefully, if not tomorrow morning." He looked at me and at our hands. "Let's hope okay?"
I felt my eyes water a little. "Okay" A few tears trickled down my cheek. "I want you home."
He wiped my tears away. "I'll try my best." Then there was a knock at the door. "Must be the doctor." he said under his breath. "Come in" He said louder.A doctor came in, she had blonde hair with brown highlights, green eyes, and tanned skin. "Hi Justin. Who's this?" She said pointing to me.
"This is my sister, Mackenzie." he said.
The doctor walked over to me and we shook hands. "I'm Doctor Lindi Brown."
"Hi, nice to meet you." I said.
"So I'm here to talk to Justin about going home." she moved to Justin's side, with a clipboard in her hand. "He can go home, like right now." She looked up and faced us. "He just needs a ride home, we have a car we can bring him in, he'll also need you with him." She pointed at me.
"That's great!" Justin said.
Lindi left the room and shut the door carefully.
"I'm glad you're okay." I said quietly.
Justin gave me a slight look. "Everything okay?"
"Yeah...." I looked down at the ground.
"Okay... I'll have to take your word..." He gave me a tight hug, and whispered in my ear. "I know that something's wrong, I'll wait till you tell me." He let go and got out of the bed. "Let's go MK"I followed him out the door, we headed down the hall and checked out of the hospital. There was a car waiting outside and we climbed in, with my bike hitched on the back. We were silent for awhile but then Justin started talking.
"How's school?" he asked.
"It's fine." I said looking out the window.
"Mack, seriously, what's wrong?" he said tapping my shoulder.
I turned to him. "A lady came today, I don't know why, but mom was dressed up, which isn't normal." I leaned my head back and looked him in the eye. "I didn't know why she was there, but she stormed out angry."
"Oh." He looked outside. "That's what's bothering you.."
"Yeah...." My head fell to the side, and soon, I was asleep on his shoulder.
He ruffled my hair a little and whispered to me. "Love you Mack."--------------------------
