I instantly let go of Adam, and he seemed surprised. I saw wide eyes staring from the entrance, and I backed away.
"Mack something wrong?" Adam questioned me as he strode to me.
"Nothing, I'm going, uh see ya." I responded as I bolted to the exit. I ran as fast as I could to get to my locker, I saw people staring and laughing. They pointed and snickered. I tried to ignore them, but I couldn't. I kept running and I bumped into someone.
"Oh I'm so sorry! So sorry" I repeated, I noticed some books were on the ground and I picked them up.
"It's alright, thanks." The girl replied as she took the books from my hands. "Hey, aren't you Mack?"
I sighed and looked up to her. "Yes I am, go ahead make fun of me." I responded as I lolled my head to the side.
"I'm not gonna make fun of you, no way. My names Avery," She told me.
I glanced at her, she had black hair, done in 2 braids, with a flower in each braid. I glanced at the jeans, and shirt, I saw a necklace dangling from her neck, it had a feather on it, and it was white, it looked like a clean white stone. She had slip on shoes and some kind of anklet, she seamed to have a modern style, yet, a sense of old fashion. I stared into her dark eyes and saw that she really wasn't gonna hurt me. I took a glance at her hands, and realized she had strange symbols on them, I saw one that looked like a wolf, and one like breeze. There was one with a fire, and something like a long house. Then I saw a bead bracelet, didn't look like something you found in a store, and there were a few chains hanging from them, one had an eagle, another had a feather, some others had animals, fish, and birds on them. She was different, but I mean a good different, and I liked that.
"Nice to meet you." I headed to my locker, and realized, school was about to start in about 10 minutes. "Hey, Avery, come sit with me at lunch if you want, I'll be in the courtyard."
"Kay, see ya!" She yelled as she ran down the halls.
I got my stuff from my locker and closed it. I headed down the hall and straight to class, waiting for lunch to start.
---- Lunch Time -----
I got to the courtyard and sat on a stone bench, I hoped Avery would come, I need a girl to sit with sometime, and plus she was the only one who didn't make fun of me. I sat and took out my lunch, not much but I ate it. She came by and sat beside me, she took out her lunch and put her lunch kit down.
"So, you're new?" She asked me as she took a bite out of her sandwich.
"Yeah, and you aren't so new are you?" I guessed.
"No I'm not been with these kids a whole lot, say, kids making fun of you aren't they?" She said changing the subject, I think she was trying to change the subject, not cause she was uncomfortable, she wanted to say something, so I went along with it.
"Yea, a little, have you ever been?" I asked with curiosity.
"Yeah, cause of my background." She sighed and looked down at her half eaten sandwich and put it away.
"Oh, why?" I asked, she was getting me interested.
"I... don't make fun of me?" She asked me, and I nodded. "You know the colors of peoples skins?"
"Yes I do," I answered.
"Well I'm not white, not black, not yellow, none of that, I'm red." She said quietly, as she put her lunch in her backpack.
"Whoa, cool, I've always wanted to meet one of you guys!" I announced to her.
"Really?"
"Truly."
The bell rang and we both got up, she seemed so happy that someone accepted her, I was too. We smiled and then we ran to get to our classes. Next for me, history... with Zac....
