Chapter 26
I walk behind wondering why Emilia would say something like that. I didn't get aggressive at dinner, or not that I can think of. But I guess what had come off to Emilia was different. Taylor holds my arm in the street while we make our way to Times Square. She pulled me away when Emilia spoke, trying to get me away from a conversation that I can't stop.
Gemma and she go back into a conversation. Emilia keeps my jacket on though, making me wonder why she would be quote on quote scared of me but keep my jacket around her shoulders. After fresh air and a cigarette, I came around to the idea of a half-sister.
I'm the middle child now, which I find weird but something makes me smile when I think about Emilia. I wonder if Gemma and I are allowed to stay in contact with her after this meeting. If I can prove to her I'm not actually an aggressive person, I would really like to have a relationship with her.
"What time is your flight tomorrow?" I ask my mum while we walk
"I think it's late, maybe 5 at night or so"
Taylor looks over at me immediately. I had agreed to have brunch with her parents in the morning, which makes me laugh thinking about Gemma making fun of her family and how they would probably have brunch on Sunday, which they do.
Becca will be there finally. I'm excited to see her with her family and how she interacts with her little sister. Especially after the amount of change she has gone through.
"No, mum we're off early. We land late in London tomorrow" Gemma corrects, letting Taylor loosens her grip on me. "Harry has brunch in the morning, we're not invited to" she laughs and I join her with a slight chuckle. She wants to give an English accent and make fun of Taylor's parents but my eyes beg her not to do it around Taylor.
"Oh," mum looks sad, "the weekend just went by so fast"
"I'll bring you out here again as soon as I can. Maybe I'll come home for Christmas this year" I smile at her knowing that I will be getting paid during this residency and that I will have a bigger income than the bar. It will give me more availability to see my mum more often. Even though I know my schedule will be pretty hectic.
Her frown changes with my words and as we approach Times Square, it gets even bigger. Taylor is smiling at me when she sees my mum and sister become excited over a small amount of a big city.
"Look at these lights!" Gemma stands in the middle, by the red stairs to take it all in.
I don't mind Times Square at night over the day. There is a glow to the night with all of the advertisements and bright lights. I makes it seem like midday when it's past midnight.
My mother and sister make their way up the big stairs, taking a moment to look at everything. They're both smiling from ear to ear, hugging each other with excitement. Taylor lets go of me to run up the stairs with my family for her to take a picture. I hold the two of them close, letting my smile stretch for miles just like theirs.
"Harry you live so close to the coolest thing in the world" Gemma laughs, holding me close to run her hands through my hair. My hat knocks off when she ruffles the mop of curls I call hair.
Emilia smiles next to Gemma, leaving herself quiet when she looks at me. "How about, Thanksgiving comes around, we do a Broadway show and a big Thanksgiving dinner. We can have it with the Swift's and I mean, I can try to be nice to dad so we can have him come." I blurt out within the excitement
"Thanksgiving?" Taylor looks at me but I'm confused why she would question me
Gemma smiles though, "you'd really have a relationship with dad?"
