Once the taxi had dropped my mom and I off in front of our new house, the sleepiness seemed to disappear. The house we were standing in front of was a small, cute little beach house. From what I could tell, there looked like there as a flat roof.
'Hello to chilling on the roof!' I thought as we made our way to the door.
"Hey mom, are you sure we can afford this?" I asked, feeling unsure. We definitely weren't the richest people, but we weren't struggling with two peoples' income. However now that my moms teaching income was the only thing supporting us, I had doubts about it keeping this house.
It wasn't an expensive looking house, but it still looked really nice and we were living in Miami. I had a hunch that things here weren't that cheap. After all, it was a place that lots of people wanted to move to.
"Oh don't worry about it, honey," my mom said, unlocking the door. "Your Aunt Annie owns this house, and she's letting us rent it. She made the cost lower because we're family and there is nothing inside. Apparently she has been trying to sell it for ages. It's a beautiful house."
Feeling relieved that we would in fact be able to keep the house, I stared at the door. With a quick look to each other, my mom and I grabbed each other's hands and opened it. We flipped on a light switch next to the door, revealing a beautiful living room. It connected to what I guessed was supposed to be a dining room.
"Wow," my mom said, her eyes wide with wonder. "I've always wanted a house like this."
Walking in farther, I could see a small, empty room that I guessed was meant to be a little office. Another door showed us to a pretty big kitchen.
"Look mom!" I said, walked towards the kitchen. "Look how big it is! There's plenty of space for you to cook now."
In our old house, my mom often complained how our kitchen was too small to do anything. Now she could have all the space she needed.
"It's wonderful," she said excitedly. "But I'm completely beat. Let's go upstairs and find a room to stay in for tonight."
With that thought in mind, my mom and guy grabbed our toiletry bags and our sleeping bags before making our ay up the stairs. We turned into the first room we saw, dropping our bags and setting up the sleeping bags. It was more for comfort on the floor, since the house was a nice and comfortable temperature.
I chuckled at my mom who was practically falling over as she set up her sleeping bag. She managed to take off her shoes by herself but left the rest of her clothes on.
"Here mom," I said, helping her finish setting it up. "Go to sleep."
"Love you, sweetie," she said, blowing me a kiss goodnight.
"Love you too, mom," I said as I crawled into my own sleeping bag. The tiredness came back at me full force, and it wasn't long before I was sound asleep.

The next morning I woke up to the sound of a light roaring and bright light. Squinting, I slowly opened my eyes and saw a plain, cracked ceiling looking down on me. I momentarily freaked out before remembering where I was.
Letting out a big yawn, I rolled to my side noticed my mom wasn't in her sleeping bag. Confused, I sat up and unzipped myself, stretching my stiff legs.
I noticed a window was open, letting the warm breeze blow in. The sun was shining and it was actually very nice and serene. Maybe I could get used to living here.
Walking down the hallway and stairs, my footsteps echoed throughout empty house. I followed the sound of my mom humming, finding her standing in the kitchen.
