Jessie's POV

I've been waiting a while to kiss Ren like that. I've always known that she's the one for me. Her hourglass figure, full lips, smooth, light skin complexion, and long hair all make me physically attracted to her, but our connection, the way she acts, and talks makes me want her even more. I've been waiting some time for us to get together, and I'm not stopping now. I don't care what Marcus or anybody else got to say about it. I know she felt the same feeling I felt when we kissed, and that's all it takes.

Walking inside my house, the smell of quesadillas, chicken, steak, rice, and beans fill my nose. I haven't eaten since lunch time, and practice got me starving. Michael been wearing us out since we got a home game coming up. Last year we lost two games, and now he wants us to be undefeated, which we are so far. I understand where he's coming from, and I know his head's more focused because football is his ticket into college.

I walk into the kitchen to see my parents making even more food. After all these years, my mom's finally learning how to cook Mexican foods like a pro. "Hola, familia," I say, giving mi madre a kiss on the cheek and hugging mi padre. "What's cooking?"

"Hola, hijo, y tu papa solo me enseno a hacer tacos de pollo con frijoles y arroz/Hi, son, and your dad's famous chicken tacos with beans and rice!" she says. Her Spanish is getting better too. I mean, she's been practicing for eighteen years, so it's about time.

"Eso es lo que pasa, mama. Usted conseguir ese derecho y esas cosas espanolas. Veo que/That's what's up, mom. You getting that Spanish right and stuff. I see you."

She smiles and kisses mi padre. "La practica hace al maestro/Practice makes perfect," she says, giggling.

Mi madre is white. She even comes from a wealthy family out there in Hollywood, but they disowned her once they found out she was pregnant with an illegal alien's baby, as they called it, so I've never met them, and she doesn't try to keep in touch. It angers me sometimes, but knowing that she's okay with the familia that she has in this house makes me feel better about the situation.

I go to the freezer to get a water, but when I open it, a few papers fall down from the top. I quickly pick them up to take a look before anyone can stop me. One is a late fee on the light bill and the other is the rent bill that says due by next Friday.

"Don't worry about it, Jessie," mi madre says.

How am I supposed to just push this aside in my mind? This is more stress that has to be put on their shoulders, and if I can't help them, then we might lose everything. These are just two more bills piled on top of many others that they can't even look at right now. But instead of saying anything else, I just nod and head to my room. Maybe some rest will get all this off my mind.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

I open my eyes, and I'm met with darkness besides the moon light shining through the blinds. I see a plate of food on the side of me, and I hear my phone constantly ringing. I rub my eyes and reach over to grab it. "Hello." Hard breathing and sniffling is the first thing I hear.

"J-Jessie, can you come g-get me please?"

I immediately recognize the voice even through the tears, instantly making me jump up. "Where are you, mami?" I ask, grabbing my keys and storming out of my room.

"I-I don't know. I think it's the abandoned projects. I'm sitting on a bench."

"Alright. Just stay there. I'm on my way." I hang up and run out of the house, ignoring my parents calling me from the dinner table. I hop inside my car, trying to dodge the heavy rain. She's out there in the cold and rain, and she didn't even have on a jacket. I knew some crazy shit like this would happen. I should've never let her go with him.
