Four years later.
I throw my cap in the air along with the rest of my class.
"We've finally graduated!" I practically scream to Zach over the noise. We've been waiting to finally be out in the world half our lives.
Zach replies by kissing my gently in the midst of all the commotion.
"Ready to start our lives now." He says once he pulls away.
"I don't know if I'm ready for this." I say in a small voice.
"It's okay. We can figure it out together." Zach's smiles and tucks a small strand of my hair behind my ear.
"Okay." I feel like I'm lying to myself and more to him. I've made my decision and I think I will tell him tonight. If I have the guts. I might just stop though. "Let's go." I say smiling.
•••
I turn on the lights to the small apartment that I'd only shared with Zach for a few months.
"I'm going to go shower." Zach says as he sets his bags down.
"Okay." I smile weakly. I go into my room and change into some sweats and sink into the couch. About ten minutes later Zach comes out of the bathroom in a tight shirt and sweats.
"Hey." He says and sits beside me.
I yawn in reply. "Hi."
"You wanna watch something?" He asks.
"Sure but I might fall asleep." I reply honestly.
"That'll be fine with me." Zach smirks and I laugh gently.
Soon, I was close to sleep but said anyway, "Zach?" I was ready to tell him what I've meant to say forever.
"Yeah?" He asks and mutes the TV.
I hesitate for a minute before rethinking my thought. Maybe now wasn't the best time.
"Never mind." I shake my head slightly.
"No really what's wrong?" He asks turning toward me more.
"I'll tell you in the morning." I says closing my eyes and ending the discussion.
"Okay..." Zach says hesitantly. "Goodnight Holly." Zach whispers and I close my eyes in a restless sleep.
•••
"Mr. Lutz called." Zach says after he shakes me awake.
"What does he want this time?" I ask in a frustrated voice.
"Wants you to meet him at ten." Zach says.
"Okay. I'm not getting ready though. He can deal with it I'm sure." I say and rush into my room where I pull out a black skirt that poofs out and almost reaches my knees. Then a white three quarter sleeve top. "Okay I'll be back around eleven at least. Want to go to lunch?" I ask Zach while I lace my converse. I know my career sometimes gets between us but it won't for long. Maybe.
"Sure, where?" Zach asks with a pained expression of annoyance.
"Pizza place down the street?" I ask and he nods. "Sorry but you know I have to go to this." I say standing on my tip toes and kissing his cheek.
"I know." He says smiling weakly. "Just call me if you can't meet me."
"Okay bye." I say and brush my hair as I make my way out the door. The streets are crowded so I almost have to wait for people to pass before I can step off the little step that lead to our apartment.
I make my way to John's office and then walk in.
"What do you need John?" I ask frustrated.
"Have you considered it?" He asks.
"No! I said I didn't want to!" I raise my voice.
"Your readers are demanding another book. They say you didn't sum it up enough." John says. "Your last book was a hit this one can't be much different."
"Look. I can't write another book. Yet. I'll tell you if I have more reason to later but right now I have my life to live. I don't have time to worry about writing another hit book." I say.
"The money your getting off of your book is declining every year, you can't go on like this!" John says persistently.
"I can get a job." I say in a duh tone.
"But your a writer Holly. You need to open up to the public."
"I don't have anything to write a book about yet." I say. "What about I tell you when I have something exciting enough to write a book on? Is that okay?" I ask.
"Fine but something better happen to you soon. God seems to frown upon you enough." He says. John was never much of a Christian man and always didn't like that part in my book.
"I'm sure." I retort rolling my eyes and leaving. I was done with Mr. Lutz. Since my book became extremely popular and readers started demanding a second. Do they want more terrible things to happen to me? I ask myself.
I pull out my phone and hit redial.
"Can't make it?" Zach asks on the other side of the line
"No, just wanted to say I'd be there in ten." I reply and hail a cab while still on the phone with Zach.
"Okay is a booth good?" Zach asks.
"Yeah as long as it isn't by a window." I say afraid of the cameras.
"Okay see you in a few." Zach says hanging up.
