It was 8:00 in the evening and I was sitting on my couch with Adrian sitting on my lap watching Spongebob Squarepants with his full concentration. Sometimes I wonder if he ever did his homework or classwork with so much concentration.

There were 4 hours left for midnight to arrive and the new year begin. As I thought about all my friends who were busy out partying already or getting ready to go and party I sighed heavily and pushed Adrian gently out of my lap and walked out into the terrace that was attached to my house, snatching my robe to cover myself from off the table. A chilly wind was blowing outside and I tightened the robe around myself as I leaned against the railing to look out at the city lights.

I never celebrated the new year. It was a thing that I hadn't done since I left my home eight years back and I wasn't about to start off now. I had always celebrated the new year with Hayden but when he left me I stopped doing it because I couldn't forget him and it was painful to think about it.

It was really cold outside but inside my house it was extremely warm and cosy since it was centrally heated (<---- in the winter and centrally air conditioned in the summer) so I went back in and removed my robe and shut the terrace glass door.

Suddenly Adrian came over and hugged my knees and said "Mommy can I have a chocolate milkshake? Pwweeeeeaaassee !!!! Pwetty Pwease !!!! New Year's treat - pwease mommy !!"

I kissed his forehead and said "Sure thing sweety." and he grinned happily at me and skipped over to jump onto the couch and sit on it. I walked over to the kitchen and started making his milkshake. Suddenly the doorbell rang and I heard Adrian run over and quickly try and open the door and I laughed silently cause I knew that he tries that everytime but he can't open the door lock just yet.

I walked quietly behind him and held his milkshake in front of his eyes which he greedily snatched from my hands and rushed over to grab his favourite side of the couch.

As soon as I opened the door my heartbeat stopped on seeing the guy in front of my eyes in my doorway. Hayden's eyes were travelling down my body and back up again and I blushed when I realized what I was actually wearing.

Bloody heater! It was so warm inside my house that I decided to wear my mini cotton shorts and loose fitting lavender top which left one of my shoulders bare.

It was very clear that he was checking me out and I started tugging at my hair out of nervousness. Hayden smirked and mouthed at me "You're nervous." and childishly stuck my tongue out at him.

Damn him to the deepest pits of hell for knowing all my gestures and weaknesses. That's when Gary suddenly popped out of nowhere and said "Hayden! Its freezing outside! Can you atleast step inside the damn house and then continue the staring contest that you guys are having!!"

Hayden scowled at Gary and pushed past me in the house with the barest of touches to my bare shoulder. That's when Gary stepped in with Ricky in tow and stopped to check me out and then let out a low whistle.

He grinned mischievously and said "Now I know why Den took so long just standing at the door. You guys weren't having a staring match ....... he was checking you out!" and then he high-fived Ricky who was chuckling loudly.

Idiots! That's what they were. A bunch of dumbass idiots. As if I didn't know that he was checking me out, they had to go and make it worse by saying it out loud and that too in front of him!

I fumed and turned on my heels and walked away, back into the hall where Adrian saw Gary and screamed "PIG!" and jumped straight into Gary's arms who was laughing continuously.

I started laughing too and turned only to see Hayden who actually looked nervous for the first time in his life. I smiled at him gently and beckoned him to follow me so that I could introduce him to Adrian.
