"Emerald!!!!!" Mom screamed, and I ran down the stairs fast

"Yes?"

"Someone is here to see you..." she pointed to a man with brownish-reddish short hair wearing a bright white lab coat.

"Hello Emerald," he said, sticking out his hand.

"...hi," I tentatively shake his hand. "Um, who are you?"

He laughed, a big, booming noise. "My name is Profesor Maple, and I am here to tell you some very important news. You are going to be coming with me." At this, my parents looked at each other nervously. They looked worried sick.

"W-what? W-w-why?" I'm so confused. This man can't just come into my house and take me away!

"You are what we like to call a Gen." Huh? What's a Gen? "Gen is short for genetically modified. Modified as in... you have Pokemon genes in your blood, giving you the power to change into one. But don't worry, there are others like you." he answered my unasked question.

"So you're saying I can morph into a Pokemon!? Which one?" That's insane! No one is able to do that!

He grinned, grabbing a pokeball and tossing into the air. It sounded with a pop! and a little lilac figure suddenly appeared in front of me. Espeon!! I immediately knelt to the ground and pet its thin, sensible fur. I absolutely love Espeon. I look up at Professor Maple, a smile on my face. Maybe being able to transform into a Pokemon isn't so bad.

"Well, you should go get your bags. We need to leave soon. There are a few more stops we need to make before getting to camp." He looked down at his watch impatiently.

"Wait... uh, A-what's camp, B-how do I turn into an Espeon?" I inquire.

"Oh yes! Well, camp is where you're going to be staying with the other Gens and developing your ability. And, Espeon, you know what to do," he answered.

Espeon jumped onto my lap and pressed her paw into my forehead. It felt like there was something burning straight through my skull and into my brain. She finally removed her paw and stepped back. Mom and Dad gasped.

"What?" I asked, confused. They looked like they'd seen a ghost. I looked down at myself, seeing just the purple ruffly shirt and olive green shorts I was wearing earlier. I was able to move my legs and arms, and my white hair was the same as always - frizzy and tangled. But then my my mom gave me her phone, the camera reflecting my face, and I'm sure I must've looked as surpised as them. Right where Espeon touched my forehead was a big, red circle that matched Espeon's.

"To turn into an Espeon, you have to just will yourself into doing it. But you literally just gained the ability. Your power is obviously not strong enough. Now run along and gather your things. There is a long trip ahead of us," he said matter-of-factly, turning brisly on his heel. "Please meet me in the van."

I ran up the stairs to my room, a million questions running through my mind. How did Pokemon genes get in my blood? Who are the other gens? When I am I going to be able transform? AAAAGH!
