"Emerald, Mario, my I see you for a moment?” Professor Maple said, his face expressionless as he ushered us into his office. It was after dinner, and we had been waiting as students were summoned to call their parents.

Mario and I walked into Professor Maple’s office, which had gray walls, a desk, filing cabinets, and absolutely no personality. Where were the pictures of his kids, or the beloved paintings and posters? It seemed like a blank canvas.

“So, you both have been to the forest, yes?” he asked. I nodded nervously, and Mario agreed as well. “Did you happen to find a… line? That was black and white?” He was starting to scare me, but I nodded again. “Good, good. You see, we do not like Gens to go into the forest here. It is a dangerous place, and you could have been killed. Do you have any idea why you are in this place in the first place? It is to protect you from the people who want to use your abilities for their selves. NEVER go into the forest again. Understood?”

“Yes sir,” Mario said dutifully while standing up. “But I was only in there because I was knocked in and Emerald was just trying to help me.” Professor Maple just nodded solemnly, seeming to be thinking about something.

“We’re terribly sorry, sir,” I apologized. Just before I headed out the door, though, a question bloomed in my mind. “Um, Professor? When I went through the black and white area, everything felt evil. But when Mario did, he said he felt happy. Is there a reason for that?”

“Ah yes. There are lots of variables to that answer. It all has to do with different ‘types’ of Gens and the circumstances in which the person is inside the zone. I can assure you, though, that you don’t have to worry about that,” he answered in a very scientific attitude. Mario and I scuttled out of the room and back to our table.

When I got back to my friends, I realized that Georgia was gone. She must have gone to take her call. Minutes later, she came back with a puzzled look on her face. Professor Maple brought her to his office and she came back with tears streaming down her cheeks. I’ve never seen her this vulnerable; she’s always been too strong for mushy, sad stuff.

Summer, Meadow, and I immediately stood up. Pen just looked confused.

“What’s wrong?” Summer asked in a motherly tone, the concern plain in her voice.

 “What happened?” Meadow cried.

“What-who-when-where-how?” I stuttered.

“M-my parents are dead,” Georgia replied before bursting into uncontrollable sobs.

“Oh my Arceus!” Pen exclaimed. Summer and I, who were standing closest to Georgia, wrapped our arms around her in a hug that Meadow and Pen soon joined. I could tell she was really affected by this because normally she would have pushed us all away.

“Now I have no where to stay,” Georgia stated after she seemed to have wiped away most of her tears. That’s when I came up with my idea.

“I haven’t made my call yet. I can ask my parents if you can stay with me,” I suggested. Our house should be big enough.

“R-really? You think they’d do that for me?” she replied.

“Of course, Georgia,” I said. “It’ll be fine.”

Later Georgia explained what had happened to her parents.

“Apparently they were killed by this serial murderer who has killed quite a few people before getting to my parents. Police have a suspect this time. I swear, if they don’t catch ‘em…” she explained. “What’s weird though, is that I wasn’t really that close to them. But just the shock of it all made me burst.”

That night we had an extra special round of games just to cheer everyone up after the unexpected loss. Sapphire and Candy had even joined our little group of girls, and were quite a rowdy addition. They were the weirdest best friends ever, considering how different the two were.

The two soon transformed for the first time into their Gen Pokemon forms. They were both dancing around singing theme songs from movies and just… poof! They were gone and replaced with a Sylveon, ribbons flailing as she leaped for joy, and a Celebi, wings fluttering.

It’s crazy how everyone transforms their first time. I was just concentrating, Georgia was asleep, Pen was in freezing water, and the girls were singing. I even remember when Mario first transformed he was just talking and eating dinner!

This strange little world of Gens has become like a new home for me…
