“Alright Gens, pair up!” the Gen instructor bellowed after announcing that we’d be doing a special type of training in which types opposite each other would pair up to prove that although you need to be careful, type advantages don’t always win a battle. It was about a week after the new Gens had arrived.
The water types would train with the fire types, the grass types would pair with the ice types, and we would pair with the fighting types. I didn’t really know anyone else, so I ran over to Mario.
“Do you wanna be partners?” I asked him. He looked a little shocked at first, but agreed. We went to a battle field and I saw that Summer and Chip were at the one next to us. “Good luck!” I yelled to Summer, smiling sweetly. She just glared at me. I’m not really sure what the situation is with those two, but I don’t think they’re “officially” dating.
Across from me, Mario changed into his Makuhita form, and I changed into Espeon. Starting out with a Psychic, I slammed him hard into the ground only for him to get right back up for a Brick Break. It didn’t hurt that much, since psychic types are resistant to fighting types. Swift would be a bad idea in this situation, though, since fighting types are resistant to normal types. So instead I sent a Psyshock, and he was knocked way back by the power. I gasped as he flew into the forest, and ran in after him.
Mario? I mentally screamed because I couldn’t talk as an Espeon. I couldn’t find his thoughts anywhere. Soon I found the black and white line I saw the last time I was in the forest, and was shocked to find that it had gotten a lot wider, as if it was inching toward camp. Now it was about two feet long.
And right in front of me, in the middle of the line, was Mario, back in his regular form. The impact must have knocked the Gen out of him. I transformed back into my regular shape and reached my hand out into the black and white area to help him up. He seemed a little dazed at first, but accepted and got up.
“Why is everything black and white? Am I dead?” he asked, and I laughed.
“No, just this line. And no, you’re still alive,” I answered before stepping into the black and white area. That weird evil feeling filled me again, and I wanted to get out. “Let’s go back.”
“Why does everything feel different? Like, happier, somehow?” he said. I looked at him strangely.
“Happier? Everything feels evil to me,” I shuddered.
“How strange,” he said, “that you feel evil and I feel happy.” He walked out of the forest in his usual manner, kind of childish like he was hopping around. I followed him out, and training was pretty much over when we got back.
A little ways in to dinner, Destiny and Professor Maple got onto the stage to make a special announcement.
“Everyone, we have an exciting announcement to make!” Destiny announced.
“But first, we have some important things to go over,” Maple added in a serious tone. “Next month is February, and that means that changes are going to be taking place. Those of you born in January will begin experiencing some new abilities as Gen. Each year until you’re sixteen you will experience a new ability. You can only have one ability at a time, however, depending on the circumstance. And your next ability is…. Mutant. We will explain what that is when you get back from break.” Whispers broke out across the tables at the mentioned “break.”
“Everybody settle down, please. Yes, we will be having a break, starting in a few days, for a week. During this time you will go back to your families. Tomorrow you will call and inform them of this,” Destiny explained.
“I’m going to see my family!” Meadow said excitedly.
“My parents!” Summer exclaimed. I forgot that she’s been here for a year, and Georgia, Pen, and I have only been here a month and a week.
“My sisters!” Pen added.
“My brothers,” I droned. Yeah, seeing them was going to be okay, but they’re leaving soon anyway for university. At least I’ll see my parents.
“Yippee, my separated parents,” Georgia said sarcastically. I patted her arm sympathetically, but she just growled at it.
“Sheesh, sorry,” I said before getting up with the others to return to the cabin.
Right before I fell asleep, Georgia looked at me and smiled mischievously before crawling into her own bunk below me.
“You like Mario, don’t you?”
“Whaaat?” I choked, surprised.
“Oh come on. You battled with him today and ran after him into the forest,” she explained.
“And you’re blushing right now,” Summer added. When did she join the conversation? Shocked, I raised my hand to my cheeks.
"Ooooooh, Emmy likes someone!" Sapphire sang.
“Good night guys,” I huffed, ending the conversation before turning over and hugging my Lollipop plushie.
