"Jenny! Your friends are outside waiting for you." Mother spouted from downstairs, a bowl and spoon taking up her hands. A flurry of steps pounded down to the front door. Outside awaited three bored looking kids just as small as the girl.

"It's about time." One other girl with poofy hair rolled her brown eyes.

"Wanna come with us to the park?" A red haired boy questioned, hands fiddling with his dark grey shirt.

"Okay."

On the walk to the playground, the four children chatted about Halloween and what their plans were.

"What are you going to be, Summer?" The redhead asked the q-tip haired girl.

"Maybe a spider."

"I wanna be a dragon, or a shark." He shared excitedly.

"I guess I'll be a wizard, or a witch." The other, not as important boy added from behind the others.

"What about you? What are you being?" Summer inquired the girl walking next to her.

"I don't know."

"Don't you want candy?"

"I do, I just don't know what I want to be yet."

"You only have a few weeks left to pick."

"I know, Summer."

After a long day of play, the friends split up to go home. The girl walked into her house and blanked out from exhaustion. She reclined on the downstairs couch.

Her mother debated whether to move her or let her stay where she was. The latter idea prevailed, so she carefully snuck upstairs, sure to leave at least one light on so the child didn't get too scared of the dark.

-
"And then?"

"It's a bit fuzzy, but that's around the time IT happened."

"What happened? What was IT?"
