"Gorse? You mean the big bear?" Mother shot a quizzical glance at her daughter.
"Yeah. He won't fit in my bag."
"You can't bring that big thing everywhere. It's way too heavy, somehow."
The house phone sang in the distance. The girl raced to pick it up. Unbeknownst to the mother, brown marble eyes sparkled from the lightless stairway, creaking closer as she looked away.
