"Yes, I'm calling for Alan's daughter, Jenny?" A strange woman's deep voice said on the phone. She sounded almost completely torn up by something.
"It's me." She replied.
"I just called to tell you that your dad got into a pretty bad accident on the road. I'll be picking you up later tonight."
"Ooookay?"
"I'll be your step-mom."
"Oh."
"Alright, see you soon." The girl hung up afterwards, letting it sink in.
"Are you alright?" Gorse asked, distressed. She spun around and hugged him tightly, crying into his brown sweater.
"I don't want a step-mom! I want a dad." She sniffled.
"He'll be fine." Gorse hushed the sobbing girl. "He's probably comatose anyway."
"What?"
