I didn't see Benjamin days after the incident.

But I remember that there was a day when Vanessa walked into the cafeteria with tears streaming down her gorgeous heart-shaped face.

I felt my heart tug at itself in sympathy.

Him and Vanessa had another one of those fights.

And surprisingly enough, the damsel in distress came to me for help and advice.

I remember the moment she took her seat right next to me along the corner of the lunch room table.

"Why did you come to me?"

"I came to you because I don't know how to deal with him anymore. He's been becoming more and more distant. Myra, I just don't know what to do! I have this gut feeling that he's falling out of love, and I'm completely heart broken about it. Can you talk to him for me?"

I tensed up in my seat and gripped my mechanical pencil until my knuckles turned nearly white.

"I can't. I'm sorry. I don't want to be involved with the things that I know will always turn out to be my fault when I take the initiative. Plenty of people hate me already. The last thing I would ever want to happen is you and Benjamin targeting me."
