Girls with
Scotch tape parted lips
From the boys
With broken bottle hands
For
Ripping the charcoal
From your lungs
And for
Borrowing the insect infestation
From inside your stomach
Their tongues uninvited guests
Trespassing in and out
Locked doors merely
Obstacles not
Rejections
Taxi cabs for fingertips
But
Navigation
Says directions
Upstairs
Are currently
Unavailable
The lighter may be the
Only thing they
Asked for
But it wasn't
The only thing
They took
He
Wasn't like them
Though
He strung lavender
In the hallways
Bought a padlock
For the cellar
Lanterns for the
Kitchen His candle flames
The only thing Keeping your
2am shadow warm
He knew how to love you
In the bed of dead stars
Or in the bed
Without them
Knew just how the skyscrapers
Behind your house
Illuminated the
Refrigerator door
Cigarettes touched his
Lips
With the kind of
Starvation
You only saw in the widowed heart
Of a city sparrow
But how many mouthfuls
Of plaster before you
Suffocate each other with your
Teeth
Bruises lining your
Collarbone
Become the only piece of
Jewelry he ever gave to you
He wasn't
Like them
Though.
