Chapter Twelve: I trust those Three with my life now.

Chapter Twelve: 

I stare at the pair in shock, “C-“ Devin clasps his muscular hand over my mouth and hides me from view. Devin is right, why? Devin slowly removes his hand, “I can’t believe this!” I whisper and peek again and Carlin is talking to Desiree with sadness showing in his posture... he’s slouched and his head is bowed like a sad puppy. Desiree says something that makes Carlin look at her again and kiss her as if the two are saying goodbye, Desiree pulls away and bows at Carlin and walks away to our direction.

“DESIREE!” Carlin yells in anger, Devin hides me behind the door as footsteps storm behind us. “I love you.” I peek through the crack of the door and Carlin is right in front of us with Desiree.

The sound of feet shuffling and I move away from the door, “It’s risky...” Desiree softly speaks and something inside me dies of guilt of ruining this relationship, “Besides... she’s right... I’ve lied.” I hear her soft cries and I stare at Devin who is still staring at the pair.

I bow my head and move to the door handle but Devin grabs my hand, “Desiree, you haven’t lied... it’s my entire fault. I took my status to my advantage and used you... What we have to do is run away together, I guess if it worked for him... It’ll work for us.” I stare at Devin with a wash of confusion, “Meet me here tonight.” Carlin orders and starts to walk away.

In spur of the moment, “NO!” I yell as I swing the door open and appear in between the pair, behind me Devin is trying to conceal himself. “Carlin! You can’t leave! I’m sorry!” The male is absolutely wreaked, his hair looks like someone has pulled it for a good hour... his eyes are bloodshot and he looks ridiculously pale. He looked better when I was spying on him.

Desiree grabs my hand trying to pull me away but I will not budge, “Azure, you ruined EVERYTHING.” Carlin yells at the top of his lungs, “YOU CAN’T MIND YOUR OWN FUCKING BUSINESS.” I am on the verge of tears, his words are stinging like bees.

I look away trying to stay strong, “Wait a damn second.” I turn to Devin who is holding my hand, “Carlin you are so fucking obvious, I told her about you and Desiree. She didn’t stick her nose into your business.” He lets go and I cover my mouth feeling tears run down my cheeks, “You know how obvious your romance with Desiree is?” Carlin hardens his gaze on Devin who is in the middle of saving me a personal war, “It’s so fucking obvious that it’s the talk of the servants. When you two hit it off in her bedroom, did you know that Daniel and I were right outside?” Carlin marches towards Devin and smashes his fist against his jaw.

I gasp, “You and Azure match, you two don’t mind your own business. Maybe she should fuck you instead of my know-it-all brother.” I choke as Devin sluggishly stands up.

Devin points at Carlin accusingly and bites his tongue, “You can bully the hell out of me whenever, but pick on my lady and you are asking for it.” Carlin turns and is a centimetre away from Devin they look like they are ready to break out into a fight it out again. “Oh and, did you know that you will be nothing so why bother with a girl like Desiree?” Carlin raises his hand and I grab it just in time and Carlin spins on his heel and meets my eyes like he’s just seen them.

Desiree is frozen in shock at the sight, her whole body is shaking while her brown eyes are wide with complete fright. Carlin is still and I realise his bronze eyes soften, “You should just mind your own business.” He spits and forcibly removes my grip on him and starts to walk towards Desiree and whispers something in her ear and she turns to him. I slowly walk up to Carlin and hopeful he turns and bows, “Listen Azure, I’m flattered that you are persistent to calm me down but what you did was a total and utter betrayal.”

I cross my arms and sigh, “Carlin, relax... Your ‘Mother’ doesn’t even know that you are with Desiree.”

He points at me accusingly, “You don’t know that.” I grab his hand angrily and stare into his eyes. “Let go of me.”

I shake my head and sigh, “You are overreacting...”

Carlin furrows his eyebrows, “You’re not right. You never were.” He’s throwing ever single insult he can think of, and now for some odd reason it’s bouncing off like it has no effect on me. “That’s it.” He raises his hand and I close my eyes awaiting impact, I never knew Carlin is a woman basher... Before I know it, some grabs my bicep and more voices are heard.

I open my eyes and Edryn along with Arctic are in front of me protectively, “Carlin. You lay another hand on my girlfriend I swear to God-“ Arctic cuts Edryn off by gripping Carlin by the collar and pins him against the wall.

“NO!” I yell and Arctic turns to me like I’m an idiot, “Let him go...”

Arctic lets Carlin go who is coughing for air, “Why?!” Carlin asks me with venom.

I look at the ground, “You are being a drama queen.”

Carlin softens and points at me again, “Fine, I am. Now let’s go tell the world that Arctic is gay.” Devin who is holding me widens his eyes, I’m guessing he never knew. Carlin turns to leave and I grab his shirt, “God.” He groans and turns, “What?” He whispers and I smile at him comfortingly.

I take a deep breath, “I-“

He cuts me off and walks away with Desiree behind him.

I sigh and turn to Edryn who comforts me by caressing my arm that trails to my cheek, he kisses me lightly and I smile at him. But he narrows his eyes at the sight of my fake smile, Carlin is frustrating... and in the end I’m the one that feels guilty.

Dinner went by fast like a blur, before I know it I’m fighting with Devin to get the dress off. “Hey.” He grabs my arm and smiles at me, “Don’t worry about Carlin.” I nod quickly but Devin grabs my arm and we hug for what feels like an eternity. I pull away and fake a smile, I seriously think I’m getting everyone on edge. I probably already did, but they will have to live with it now. “Arctic?” Devin pulls away and I turn to the male who is inspecting my clothes, I pick up my green dress and hang it on a coat hanger. I’m wearing nothing but my board shorts and singlet, I clear my throat and walk past him and sit on my bed.

“Hey you alright?” Arctic asks as he makes his way towards me, “You said practically nothing at dinner.” Well I remember I made some comments about certain stuff that I don’t even remember right now.

“Listen mate, she isn’t alright she just got threatened by your brother!” Devin yells and Arctic ignores him, I stand up and Edryn emerges from his closet.

He crosses his arms sluggishly and inspects Devin for a minute, “Go see a doctor for that bruise. Arctic get to bed.” The two men are arguing but Edryn pushes them out of the bedroom, “I thought they will never leave.” He walks towards me, “You alright?” He wraps his arms clumsily around my waist and kisses me lightly with no warning.

I nod slowly, “I am now.” I kiss him willingly and pull away, “I’m going to bed.”

I hop into the bed staring at Edryn who kisses my forehead and we doze off peacefully.
