Marie is the first thing I see, “Milady,” I catch up to her out of breath, “My parents?” I ask curious and she turns fully and smiles at me.

“They are staying for two more days, we’re going to have a formal dance tonight... like the old medieval ball. Devin will get you ready.” She steps closer to me, “What’s this about Carlin and Desiree?” I choke on my breath, oh no... Marie didn’t know about it! Oh god... someone help. PLEASE.

I widen my eyes and try to look away but Marie keeps my gaze with a firm stare, “I-I-It’s just-“ I have a serious stuttering problem, Devin... someone?!

She sighs at my panicked state, “Mother, she’s meant to say that Desiree and I are going out to the Natural Gardens...” I turn to Carlin who is staring at his mother trying to convince her of his lie.

Marie stands straighter, “Oh, Carlin you know I don’t like you out and about...”

Carlin smirks, “That’s why it’s a secret... or was.” He turns his head to me and hardens his angry stare.

Marie looks at Carlin and my heart is heavy with guilt, “Oh alright... anyway I need to plan this ball so I need to go.” She kisses her son on the cheek and walks away.

“Bye Mother!” Carlin yells and after she leaves the view he starts to walk away from me, I grab his sleeve and he turns in annoyance. “Azure.” He says my name calmly.

I look down, “I’m sorry.” I whisper and Carlin rolls his eyes.

“Know your place Azure, you are nothing but a girlfriend of ‘Edryn’ you have no right to spread more drama. Or to screw around with the household, keep your nosy fucking nose to yourself.” He snaps at me and my heart beats faster and I try to fight back tears, Carlin inches towards me and leans into my ear. “And if you tell anyone else about this encounter... I promise you... I will organize your jail sentence.”

He pulls away and walks away without another word, I’m currently trying to hide my tears with my hair. I sink my head low and start to trudge in direction of my bedroom, I fight the need to sniff and cry.

A loose tear runs down my cheek and I wipe it away angrily and run to the bedroom, I swing the door open and the real Edryn is in a suit and turns with a smile that fades as he looks closer at me. “Azure.” He drops the tie he’s about to wrap around his neck and rushes towards me and closes the door, I finally succumb to cry in his arms. He sits me at the bed and runs his hand over my back several times trying to comfort me, he places his head on top of mine and I grip his jacket for support and look into his blue eyes. “Why are you crying...” He asks and I look down and he cups my chin and forces me to look at him, he clears my vision by removing strands of my black hair and wrapping them behind my ears.

Should I tell him? He... “Carlin threatened me.” Edryn looks at me in shock and stands up, “Where are you goi-“ He places a finger on my lips. He looks angry and his eyes stare at me and they feel like fire, “Edryn?” I stand up.

He turns and walks towards the door, “He may be my brother but he has no right to push you around. I’m going to put him in his place.” He opens the door but I run and slam it in front of him.

“You don’t know why he threatened me!”

Edryn stares at me in shock, “Azure... What did you do?!”

“Do you want me to be honest?” I bite my lip.

“YES!” He yells like it’s obvious...That was a stupid question Azure, I fiddle with my black shirt and take a deep breath.
