Chapter Fourteen: An accident.

Chapter Fourteen

I sit quietly as Edryn rides his horse across the polo course, it’s been a week since my parents arrived and everything has been quiet since. I haven’t seen Carlin in a week but he’s most likely avoiding me anyway, ever since we had that run in with Carlin... Devin and I became inseparable unless I’m with Edryn. In a way he reminds me of a best friend that I met several years ago... “I never knew Edryn was so competent with horse riding.” I state as Edryn jumps over an obstacle with ease. With me is Devin of course and several onlookers, on the other side of the arena is Marie and Queen Francine. No Carlin in sight. Arctic and Courtney are sitting not too far away from me but far enough for Arctic to give me sly smirks and no one will notice. Oh and Carlin’s threat about Arctic’s sexuality was never revealed to the public, it sort of showed that Carlin is all talk.

It’s horribly sunny today, but it’s a private gathering so no paparazzi around. I sort of wish that they are here because it’s pretty damn boring sitting here... I can horse ride... but not at Edryn’s level. He makes me want to push him off and ride myself, it’s been too long without horse-riding. Everyone is so quiet, Edryn finally stops and several servants take his horse away into the stables and everyone rises and claps for his performance.

Edryn jumps over a gate and makes his way over to me, “That was brilliant!” Devin claps like a school boy, I turn to Edryn and he holds my hand and nods at me.

Edryn escorts me around the garden where a nearby stable looms over us, “Devin, can you get Clover and Sazh please?” Devin humbly runs ahead of us, “So, you use to ride?” Edryn smirks and I nod trying to be modest, “I take it you were very good?” I shake my head and Edryn laughs lightly and kisses my forehead.

He’s so comfortable after Carlin did the tantrum, Edryn has been Edryn since. I swear something happened to Carlin but I’m worried about everyone’s answer. “Here!” I turn to Devin who has two horses by his side, “I’m sorry Azure, Marie wants me.” He states and I nod and he runs out of vision after he gives me the bridle of a horse, the horse that he gave me has blue eyes and a light cream coat with a white marking on its left leg... it reminds me of a smudge.

I turn to Edryn, “She’s beautiful.” I smile as I rub her thoroughly Edryn looks at the horse and smiles, his horse is different from the one he had when he was jumping. This is a white horse with black hair, a rare combination in my opinion... never seen it before. The white is almost as white as snow and the hair greatly contrasts with it, “And your name is?” I ask and smile.

Edryn pats his horse, “This is Clover, that horse there with you is Sazh. He’s a great horse. Clover is personally my favourite horse, aren’t you baby?” He kisses the horse’s neck and hops onto her.

I look back at Sazh, I think I just called him a girl before... woops. I follow Edryn and mount Sazh with ease, “Where are we going, milord?” Edryn turns to me with displeasure at the fact I didn’t call him by his real name. “Edryn.” I drag out his name slowly and laugh to myself.

He stops his horse and flicks my forehead, “Where’s your helmet, Lady?” I cringe, Lady does not suit me.

“Lady makes me sound old!” I complain.

“So does ‘Milord!’’ He retorts and mocks my voice when he says milord, “But anyway, I’ll go and grab helmets for you and I.” He hops off Clover and runs into the shed next to the stables, I look at Sazh and comb his mane. He’s such a gentle horse! I can’t believe it... I look around for a moment, everything here is perfect... the flowers, the grass and the people. Except for- I try to wipe away the thought of Carlin out of my head.
