Nick's mom ended up staying at the house for the entire evening, talking with Nick, while she held Evan & then she stayed for dinner. I understood completely since she was his mother & wanted to cherish every moment of the second chance, she was given, with her son. In her case, it was really a third chance, but in any case I got it.

At one point, I had pulled Tracy aside & told her not to bring up Nick's dad, since he didn't seem like he was interested. Nick of course ended up asking Tracy about him & I watched Nick, closely, as he listened to his mom talk. He held a mug of coffee & seemed interested in what Tracy had to say. I thought maybe he'd be okay with meeting his father, at some point, but I wasn't going to push it.

That night after Nick's mom left, things still seemed pretty normal & it gave me hope that Nick & I would be okay now. I thought that the awkwardness & the drama would be behind us, since I had told Zac, but I should have known better.

After Evan was in bed that evening, Nick & I cuddled on the couch & I got him caught up on some of the shows we used to watch together. We talked for hours, then went to bed, making love once again before falling asleep. I fell asleep on Nick's chest with a big smile on my face.

In the morning Nick was awake before me & once again he got Evan up before I was out of bed. By the time I got up, Evan was dressed & had already eaten breakfast. I was grateful that Nick & Evan were bonding, so much & it was another thing that gave me hope that things would be back to normal soon.

A car was picking us up at 11 that morning, so while Nick got dressed, I dressed Evan in the outfit I was surprising Nick with. I had bought it when Evan was first born & now he was finally big enough to fit in it. I never had shown Nick or told Nick that I had bought it, thinking I'd surprise him one day. I had forgotten about it, until I came across it a few weeks earlier & seeing it made me bawl, because I thought Nick would never get to see Evan wearing it.

When Nick saw Evan, dressed in a Marines desert utility uniform that matched his own, I thought he might cry. Evan did look adorable & I couldn't wait to take a picture of them. I took a ton, while we waited outside for the car to pick us up. We sat on the porch, Nick holding Evan's hands in front of him & I noticed we were attracting a lot of attention from the neighbors. I smiled at them, in between snapping pictures with my phone of my two Marines.

The car took us to where the press conference was being held & I sat in the front row, with Evan on my lap, beside Nick's mom. We listened as they announced that there were eight men, who were alive, who were part of the heroic team, that was with both presidents while they were in hiding. They introduced each man & when they said Nick's name, Tracy & I were louder than anyone else. We yelled, clapped & whistled, in turn, making Nick look mortified but amused.

Once the clapping stopped, the General who had introduced Nick, put his hand on Nick's shoulder & spoke into the microphone, something he hadn't done with the other men. "This man, right here, is Master Gunnery Sergeant, Nick Jonas & he is the reason that all of these men & our president are alive today. He is a hero & he deserves another round of applause." The General said & the entire room erupted in applause as Nick looked somewhat embarrassed. I sat there, stunned, having no idea that Nick was the one who saved the men & himself. The room quieted & the General spoke again. "We will be giving more details about the events, in the coming weeks & I assure you, we will be having a celebration to honor this man, right here. Our country thanks you Sergeant Jonas." The General & Nick saluted each other & then Nick took a seat on the stage, with the other men.
