When the cool breeze hit me, after I opened my front door, I realized I was more drunk than I thought. I saw Zac standing there & he really did look hot, but then I started giggling, from the wine. I smirked at Zac, as I held onto the door, which was the only thing keeping me from falling over. "Zac... you have impeccable timing. What are you doing here? At my house?" I made a face, like he was in trouble, but that I was amused.
"Are you okay?" Zac asked, stepping forward, closer to the door.
"Not really. I got in a fight with Nick & I went to drink a glass of wine, to relax me, but I ended up drinking almost the whole bottle." I let out a giggle, then I literally hiccupped, which made me laugh harder. "I'm pretty fucking drunk, right now."
"Where's Evan?"
"I had to work late so my mom kept him, since I'm supposed to go over there tomorrow, anyway, for my grandma's birthday." I shrugged my shoulder & almost fell over. Zac reached to hold me around the waist & I angrily pushed his hand away. "You didn't answer my question. What are you doing here?"
"You said you'd do the interview & that you'd call me this week, but I never heard from you. Then I called & texted you, but you didn't answer, so I came over here."
Suddenly, Nick's face popped into my head & I knew how disappointed he'd be, with me, right now, if he knew Zac was here. "I promised my husband...." I closed my eyes, picturing one of the snaps that Nick had sent me when he was on his way to D.C. I smiled, then opened my eyes to see Zac looking annoyed.
"You promised him that you wouldn't be friends with me, anymore. Demi, I sold this idea to my bosses because you agreed to it. We don't have to be friends. This is business. I really need this interview."
My stomach started to turn & my head felt like it was spinning, so I covered my mouth & turned to run to my bathroom, that was in the hall, that led to the kitchen. I started throwing up before I even got to the toilet, so I made a mess before I fell to the floor. I hugged the toilet & kept puking, feeling like I wasn't going to be able to stop. I couldn't remember the last time I got this sick, from drinking.
Once I stopped throwing up, I was trying to catch my breath as my stomach retched. I felt Zac rub my back & I was too weak to protest. I lifted my head & saw Zac standing at the sink. He handed me a paper cup of water, which I took, but was afraid to drink. I sipped it & swished it around in my mouth, then spit it into the toilet. Zac reached over me to flush the toilet, then he sat on the floor beside me, chuckling, quietly. "That was mostly wine & something that didn't look very appetizing. What the hell did you eat?" He asked, wiping my face with a wet washcloth.
I was grateful he was here, because I wasn't able to move. My body was so weak, it felt like I was made of Jell-O. "I hadn't eaten since lunch at work, so it was a salad." I answered, in a slow, quiet voice.
