1991, December 1.
The glass rose and the fog cleared, revealing the frozen Soldiers, 74 years after they were born, still looking in their 20's.
Their screams filled the building as their memories were stolen from them once again. Their bodies were used to all of the damage it would receive, so their ears wouldn't bleed and their faces wouldn't bruise. But that didn't stop the pain.
The words were repeated straight from the red book, by a man who neither had seen before. The effect was the same, though.
"Готов выполнить." Cold skin and Dark eyes, they received their mission, neither speaking or looking directly at anyone but each other.
"Soldier, Do you remember where you are?" When you didn't answer, you received a harsh slap to the face, causing Bucky to growl lightly.
"Soldier, I won't ask again." His Russian accent was something you silently wished you'd never hear again. "Siberia, Russia."
"And what year is it, James?" The soviet walked around Bucky, examining his stiff structure. "I don't know, Sir." He replied in Russian, unknowing of his ability to even speak English.
"Your mission is in Los Vegas, Nevada. Find and kill every man in a black suit."
Senseless.
The officers who had given the soldiers this "mission" knew they would face consequences for their actions, as they were only asked to revive, wipe, and trigger. But they'd decided to see how deep this trigger ran.
One officer watched from the cameras they'd tapped into how quickly and relentlessly they killed everyone in a black suit, soon realising that they were going to be tracked down and hunted for their actions.
They realised when it was too late how badly they screwed up.
Bullets flew fast, none hitting the twin soldiers who stood back to back, shooting at the officers. "Who the hell are you?" One shouted just as they were going to exit.
Bodies laid unconscious everywhere, women in tight bright dresses scattered under tables, unharmed.
"We're your worst nightmares."
December 16, 1991.
Scanning the area for cameras, I shot out everyone I saw. My partner, James, I believe his name was-went ahead, smashing the car that drove our targets.
As he grabbed the serum out of the trunk, I dragged the man out of the drivers seat.
But when I saw his face something stopped me from immediately taking his life.
"Well, look who it is."
I smiled as Howard approached Bucky and I. "Howard Stark." He kissed my hand and Bucky cut his eyes at him.
"A dance, Miss Barnes?" I nodded, smiling as he led me out onto the dance floor.
"You look amazing tonight, Darling." He murmured.
"Don't get used to it, Stark. This is the only time you'll see me out of uniform."
"Well," He leaned in closer, lips by my ear. "Let's put this red dress to some use, doll."
I slammed his head against the car, listening to hear his pulse.
When I had, I got back on my motorcycle, following James back to base.
I watched inattentively as the people they'd recruited were injected with the blue liquid.
What was it?
I kept thinking of the man we had been sent to kill. I wondered if they knew that I'd recovered that memory.
I kept wondering if the woman in the passengers seat was his wife, and why the man I called Bucky in the memory looked exactly like James.
We stood at attention until we were called over, asked to fight the new people.
I caught a glimpse of the panic in James' face as the guy he fought almost ripped of his arm.
"Fight her." The woman stepped out in front of me, and I kept my posture.
She went high and I low, dodging her punch, then slamming her to the ground. She recovered quickly, grabbing my real arm and twisting it behind me.
I caught her wrist, in that hand and snapped it, earning a quick squeal, then used the the delay to free my arm and knock her out.
"Stand down! Stand down!" Nothing they said phased me, even when an officer came out screaming.
Something about that being his little sister I killed.
He ran toward me, and I easily slammed him into the next wall.
No one was telling me to stop.
So I kept going.
I looked to James, and grabbed his metal hand in mine, pulling him out of the gate, and slamming it shut.
We didn't make it far until someone shouted two words, first knocking out James and then me.
What did he say?
