A few weeks passed and Mirabelle and Cerise were released from the hospital. The doctors had told Mirabelle to take it easy for a few days so James was holding Cerise. He held the car door open for Mirabelle and once she got in, he handed Cerise to her, who was wrapped in a purple and white blanket that James bought for her. "Did John finish painting her room?" Mirabelle asked once James got into the car and began driving.
"Yep," James began. "A nice wisteria purple, just the way you wanted it." Mirabelle leaned over and pecked James on the cheek. "You're so sweet." She said as she began to rock Cerise back and forth. "I can't wait to take care of lil' Cece." She said. James' expression looked utterly confused. "Cece? You mean, for Cerise?" Mirabelle laughed. "Of course, who else? The Easter bunny?" James chuckled.
Once they got home, Mirabelle laid the baby down in the white birch wood crib and sat down on the lavender purple couch in the nursery. All the furniture in the nursery was white birch wood-- which was chosen by Mirabelle --and perfectly complimented the wisteria purple walls. In a corner of the room, there was a fluffy white carpet with teething rings, baby dolls and educational toys-- though, she wouldn't be able to play with them for a while. James walked in after her and kissed her.
"You know I would love to stay, especially on your first day back," James began. "But you know my manager hardly lets me off of work, even with the baby. Besides, we do need the money." Mirabelle smiled. "Don't worry, Cece and I will be just fine," She said and waved goodbye as he left. Mirabelle's eyes quickly shot to the crib when Cerise started whining, and then crying. She walked over to the crib and picked up her daughter. "Shh.... shh," Mirabelle whispered in a baby voice. "Don't cry, mommy's here... see?" The baby didn't stop crying and Mirabelle bounced her up and down, patting her and walking around, trying to keep her happy.
"Please don't cry..." Mirabelle plead. "Is there something you need?" She checked the baby's diaper but she was clean. "Are you hungry?" She went over to the couch, sat down, and tried to breastfeed but the baby wasn't drinking. "Oh please, give me a sign, Cece!" Mirabelle tried once more. Cerise slightly waved around her arms and kicked her legs, still crying. Mirabelle picked up the baby and stood up again, rocking Cerise in her arms. She began to hum to the tune of 'Hush, Little Baby,' hoping Cerise would calm down, and she did. Her crying slowed to a stop and she rested her head on her mother's arm, her feet and hands falling. Eventually, she fell asleep.
Mirabelle smiled warmly as her daughter slept in her arms. She put Cerise in her crib, still humming and rocked the crib back and forth. She sighed, knowing that she now knew her daughter a little better; Cece likes music and it calms her down. Noted. Eventually, she sat back down on the couch, watching the crib and thought about James and his pay. They lived in a fairly small house and even when James works night and day, they still struggled to pay for their home. Cerise had yawned and turned her head slightly, making Mirabelle pop back into reality and forget about her worries.
