Morning had broken. The fine pearls of early morning dusk were slowly being swallowed by the leaves they invaded. The birds were chirping melodiously, all in harmony. The villagers were not yet awake. The smoke that evacuated from the chimneys was of last night's burned wood, to keep the few lucky warm.
The sky blurred itself with countless shades of blue, the very bottom welcoming the waking sun was white. This will be a fine day. Or so...On this fine morning, the boy that was chosen by all the villagers ran around to perform his duty; he was to deliver every villager's letters. On this particular morning, the boy saw an unusual name, one that sent shivers down his spine. He was both afraid but excited.
He walked back the small alley that led to the house near the outing of the village, the boy gulped before knocking on the door. He inhaled and
"Tommy the mailman, at your service" he said loudly and clearly.
The door opened revealing a tall blonde man, not showing any signs of early exhaustion.
"Mailman?" He said chuckling "don't get so worked up about growing up so quickly, boy~" he said looking down at the child in front of his door.
The boy shrugged, he pouted both his lips.
"I have a letter for you...sir" he said bowing down while extending the letter to the man's foresight.
"A letter, Now isn't this strange?" said the man muttering.
He extended his hand to reach the letter. The boy flinched.
"Thank you, mail boy" said Frankenstein giving the child a few pennies. The latter ran as fast as he could.
Frankenstein went inside his mansion, he sat on his Chesterfield and stared at the letter. Upon seizing the sender's name, his thoughts ran wild.
What could he be wanting?
Frankenstein opened the letter, to his big surprise he found an address a date and a very short note.
"You have been elected to join Mr Stoker's night of mystery, please dress accordingly"
The very word elected sprouted an eerie smile on Frankenstein's face.
"Elected..." He said chuckling.
***MEANWHILE***
Eliza had just woken up, she felt tired. Upon trying to raise up from her bed, she realised that a urgent thirst took hold of her. She tried to reach her water posed beside her bed, having drank a few gulps she found her thirst persisting as well as a bitter taste forming in the back of her throat. She aimlessly tried to pay little attention to this peculiar and eerie change. She calmly and slowly rose from her bed. She reached the window and opened it widely. Breathing in the morning dusk, the girl felt at peace... Or so she thought.
She held the wet wooden frame of the window and clenched her grip. She remembered how clumsy she had been the previous day, and to her utter annoyance she blushed and felt her blood rushing through her cheeks. Her previously calm mind started to draw out images of the man she was taken withs. She now knew him and she memorised him. She could not help but to see his comely face flashing through her mind as she remembered her wandering into his house. Upon realising the gravity of her actions Eliza brought her hands and slapped them on her face, covering all of it.
A young and unmarried woman...in the house of a lone man...
She inhaled and smiled forward to the day, pinning down her worries she looked forward to the perhaps clandestine meeting she would have with her fate, and by her fate she meant: him.
Eliza heard a knock upon her door, clearing her thoughts she answered
"Come in"
She had realised how the timber of her voice sounded much more different, in a thoughtful instance, she could hear the rush of a certain liquid as though it was rushing down her very own ears, in all its swiftness she was taken aback by the servant awaiting her orders.
"My lady..?" Said the servant worryingly.
"Ah yes, yes Abigaël what is it?" Said Eliza as thought she had been brought forth to another reality.
"I've knocked several times, I apologise for entering without permission" said the dark lady gripping onto her arpon.
"I've invited you in, Abigaël, have you not heard me?" Said Eliza approaching the small woman standing before her.
"Milady, I have not" said Abigaël.
Eliza was surely shaken by this confession, she did remember inviting the woman in as she would everyday.
"Ah do not worry about it, I am probably still sleepy" she said smiling awkwardly.
The woman awaited her orders, and upon seeing how shaken her mistress had been, she initiated the order as humbly as she could
"Would it be the usual today? " Said Abigaël, her head low.
"Say, Abi, would the usual be sufficient to catch a man off guard? " Said Eliza lost in thought.
"My lady, if you would allow me, I believe your beauty is enough to catch a man off guard" said Abigaël smiling.
Eliza smiled and nodded, the servant then disappeared into the bathroom within the room.
Having taken her morning bath, as part of her waking routine, Eliza hurried down the stairs in a white laced dress. She sat besides her parents at the breakfast table and all the servants circled around to serve their masters.
"Eliza, dearest, we will have a visitor, coming soon before noon" said the mother buttering her bread.
This revelation had shocked the girl.
"Is it Lord Mendez?" She asked quietly.
"Yes" replied the mother gleefully.
"If you'll excuse me" said Eliza raising from her place and having barely touched her plate.
She made her way out of the dining room, she felt an uncomfortable urge to pour out the tears that built up upon hearing the name of the man that caused her so much woe.
A sudden thought sprouted out of her saddened mind. She thought of him. And to him she hurried. She reluctantly made her way through the small alley. She saw a small and dark figure from afar. She hurried forward, her dress getting caught up in various bushes. The small and dark figure from afar became clearer: it was him.
"Good morning" said Frankenstein wearing an unusual smirk on his face.
"G-good morning" replied Eliza, red flushed from her previous run.
She looked at the man, he was finely dressed in high victorian fashion. He was locking up his door. Beside him stood a small suitcase, the very sight of it petrified Eliza.
"Sir, where off to?" She asked distressed by the suitcase which grew bigger in her eyes.
"Oh, well, to London" he said smiling.
