Chapter 14
Rory: 12 weeks
Lorelai: 11 weeksThe next three weeks had passed ever so slowly and for the most part, Rory had stayed in Stars Hollow and picked up a summer job at the book store.
One rainy Thursday morning, Lorelai was woken up by a frantic scream amid the patter of raindrops against her bedroom windows. With haste, Lorelai raced downstairs into her daughter's room;where she assumed the noise came from.
"What's up?" Lorelai asked breathlessly.
"Nothing fits!" Rory screamed whilst scrambling through the piles of clothes she had accumulated over the years.
"Rory?" Lorelai said quietly.
"What?" Rory replied in a rather agitated tone.
"You're going to have to tell them very soon." Lorelai said as Rory stopped in her tracks and sat down on her bed.
"I know." Rory said with a sigh.
Lorelai pushed herself up off the door frame and joined her daughter among the sea of clothes.
"Listen.."
"Town meeting tonight, I know." Rory interrupted, completely reading her mother's mind.
"So it's crossed your mind too huh?" Lorelai said as she pulled her into a hug.
"Yeah, it certainly has." Rory said as she leant her head onto her mother's shoulder and looked down at her expanding bump.
"Tonight?" Lorelai questioned.
"Tonight." Her daughter responded nervously.Suddenly, they heard a feeble knock on her bedroom door and an anxious voice thereafter.
"Is everything okay in there?" Luke asked awkwardly.
"Everything's good Luke, you can come in." Lorelai replied with a smile as the door slowly unhinged itself.
"Hey Luke." Rory said to him.
"Hey you two, what would you guys like for breakfast?" He asked inquisitively.
"Pancakes sound good." Lorelai responded as the two Gilmore women nodded in joint agreement.
"Coming right up." Luke said as he exited the room happily.
"How did we end up so Lucky?" Rory said as she glanced over to a picture of Logan on her desk.
"I don't have the faintest idea hon, but I'm so glad we are." Lorelai responded with a smile glued to her face as they both got up and walked to the kitchen."Smells good." Lorelai said as she kissed Luke on the cheek.
"I'm making double so they better be good!" Luke replied as he flipped them onto plates and brought them to the table. As the girls began to eat, Luke ventured back upstairs to get changed.
"I'm going to New Haven this afternoon, wanna come with?" Lorelai asked her daughter who was stabbing her pancakes forcefully.
"How do you figure I hide this?" Rory said, pointing down at her stomach.
"Wear an oversized coat and plus, nobody will know you in New Haven." Lorelai suggested, which Rory wasn't opposed to.
"You're right." Rory sighed. "I guess I'll go with you." Rory said, giving in after a bit of thinking.
"It'll be good for you get out the house honey, it really will." Lorelai said as she gave her daughter a reassuring pat on the shoulder, which in response, caused Rory to give a shy smile. After breakfast, Rory tore through piles of clothes until she found an outfit that made her figure look near enough as trim as it used to be. All of a sudden, Rory wished that she hadn't gotten her mother's young figure. As it got to half nine, Luke left for work as Lorelai started to put together a presentable outfit. Due to the fact that Lorelai had put a bit more weight on over the last couple of months before she got pregnant, you could easily mistake her for gaining some extra pounds, unlike how Rory had maintained a size 6 figure for the majority of her teenage life.
"Rory! Are you ready to get going?" Lorelai shouted from her bedroom as she fumbled around for her keys.
"Almost!" Rory replied as she threw on her black winter coat which could mask her baby bump.
"I'm ready." Rory said as she walked out of her room to join her mother who was retrieving her handbag off the banister rail.
"Just gotta find my keys." Lorelai said, searching the couch whilst knocking off everything in her path.
"Think fast." Rory said as she picked up the keys off the table and launched them into her mother's hand.
"Angel." Lorelai said as she walked towards the front door.
"Oh, how I do love to be reminded." Rory replied mockingly.By the time they had arrived in New Haven, it was around one in the afternoon.
"Time schedule, go!"
"Shopping until five, home by half six, quick change of clothes by seven, coffee and a quick bite to eat at Luke's by seven thirty and town meeting by... five past eight; just to rile up Taylor." Rory responded off by heart.
"Although I love the ad-lib to watch Taylor's face go red and puffy, I don't think today's the day to do it." Lorelai said, trying to be realistic.
"Understood. We shall defer from that for today." Rory said as they began to walk to the high street. Many hours had passed and money began to dwindle. Rory shoved the myriad amounts of shopping bags into the back and jumped into the passenger seat.
"All packed and ready to go?" Lorelai asked her.
"Miraculously!" Rory replied, still out of breath.
"We didn't buy that much, did we?" Lorelai asked as she raised an eyebrow. In synchronisation, they both turned around to look at the rustling shopping bags which were overflowing immensely.
"Hmm, don't tell Luke. His card, our clothes." Lorelai responded as she started the engine and headed for stars hollow.Right on schedule, they pulled into their driveway and hauled their bags in after them. "Get ready and then we'll head over to baby daddy's... or should that be babies daddy's?" Lorelai pondered as she walked up the stairs.
"Just shush and get changed." Rory replied as she walked into her room and hurriedly sorted through the maternity clothes she had purchased. Within 5 minutes, Rory was dressed and ready to go. Even though she had such little time, it was the easiest she'd ever managed to decide what to wear since the pregnancy."Mom!" Rory shouted as she jingled the car keys deafeningly from one hand to the other.
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" Lorelai responded as she ran down the stairs. "Jeez, what's your damage Heather?" Lorelai asked her daughter breathlessly.
"My wha... oh, must be the nerves." Rory replied as she inhaled deeply and tossed the keys to her mother.
"Come on, let's grab some comfort pancakes." Lorelai said as she wrapped her arm around her daughter's shoulder calmly. However, unbeknownst to Rory, Lorelai was in complete panic mode internally."Luuuuke!" Lorelai said in a singsong type voice which was likely to irritate him.
"What's your order?" Luke replied knowingly.
"2 plates of your finest fluffy pancakes."
"Right on it." Luke said as he jotted it down and walked towards Caesar.
"..with a side of bacon!" Rory added from the table.
"Oh! and maple syrup." Lorelai shouted to Caesar who was in the kitchen.
"Calm down and get some decaf in you" Luke said as he brought two mugs over and set them out in front of the two Gilmore Girls. It had just turned 7:55pm as they finished their food.
"Do you know how you're going to go about it?" Lorelai asked, realising the time.
"Not a clue. Being on the Yale Daily News, you would have thought the words would spring to mind so easily but it's just blank." Rory replied in a worried state.
"It'll all work out honey, just you wait and see." Lorelai said which was hopefully reassuring to Rory, although it probably wasn't. The bells of the door jingled as they made their way across to Miss Patty's in silence; taking in how these
moments would be the last until they would be the town gossip for the months to come...I'm so sorry for being M.I.A for months, I've been really busy and had 3/4 of this chapter ready since May😂 Anyway, I hope you like it and I do want to start adding more to this, I promise lol hope you enjoy this chapter; the next one is the big reveal..
