Chapter 10

A week had passed since Rory had left the apartment and headed back to Stars Hallow to tell her mother the good news and everything was going swimmingly. It was a Monday morning and Rory had just returned from the doctors for her eight week check up. Lorelai was lying on the couch flicking through the channels when she heard the lock click open.
"Tell me how it went." Lorelai demanded as soon as her daughter stepped into the foyer.
"Can I get in the house first?" Rory asked sarcastically.
"Sorry." Lorelai said as Rory hung up her coat and then sat down on the arm of the chair. "Just tell me how it went!" She pleaded as her daughter gave in to her relentless efforts.
"Fine, fine!" Rory shouted jokingly. "The consultant said everything was perfect at the moment and it looks like I'm going to have a healthy pregnancy." She continued with a smile. Lorelai ran over to her daughter and hugged her tightly with a huge, beaming smile.
"Let me breath woman!" Rory yelled and her mother backed away slowly.
"Oops." Lorelai replied with a laugh as she sat herself back down on the couch. "I'm just relieved that everything is great." She finished.
"So am I." Rory agreed. "Logan is completely thrilled and I am starting to get sort of excited about it." She admitted shyly.
"I'm glad." Lorelai said with a smile. Over the past week, she had noticed how much Rory had come round to the idea of being a mother. Obviously, it wasn't the ideal life she had hoped for her daughter, but there wasn't anything that she would really change about the situation that they were in.

"I'm going to take a shower and then we're leaving." Lorelai said as she broke out of her daydream.
"Where are we going?" Rory quizzed her mother, who suddenly had a panicked look written all over.
"We're heading over to your grandparents." Lorelai added as she tried to sound confident to somewhat try and reassure her daughter.
"We're what!" Rory exclaimed in disbelief.
"Grandparents. Hartford, rich, used to pay your Yale tuition, mai..." Lorelai listed.
"I got it." Rory interrupted with a sudden wave of annoyance and petulance.
"Look Ror, we can't just avoid them and we can't leave your grandpa out the loop. It's best just to go over there and sort things out." Lorelai said, trying to set things straight,
"I guess you're right." Rory agreed reluctantly as her mother gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder as she brushed past her to go up the stairs.

"Here we are." Lorelai said as they both stood in front of the Gilmore Manor.
"Here we are." Rory responded anxiously.
"You ready?" Lorelai asked her daughter.
"Will I ever be ready?" She replied rhetorically.
"Fair enough." Lorelai said as she rang the doorbell of the highest decibel. Seconds later, an extremely scattered maid answered the door and ushered them in hurriedly.
"Through there." She mouthed quietly as she basically yanked off their coats herself. Lorelai turned to look at her daughter and gave her a quick hug as Rory buried her head into her mothers shoulder. Lorelai had no feelings of joy by forcing her daughter to do this as she wished she could avoid this situation so much. Rory pulled out of the hug and took a deep breath as she wiped away any forming tears, trying not to smudge her mascara.
"Let's get this over and done with." Rory finally said as she plucked up the courage to do so.
"Hello mother." Lorelai chimed as they walked into the living room and sat down on the couch.
"Hello Lorelai. Rory." Emily said as she poured herself a martini and two ice waters. Rory was at least thankful for that acknowledgement.
"Where's Dad?" Lorelai quizzed her mother.
"He'll be down for dinner." Emily replied to her daughters question.
"Okay." Lorelai replied and tried to think of a topic of conversation. After a while, she just decided to talk about the elephant in the room, so to speak.
"Look Mom, I know you're disappointed and think Rory is repeating history but..." She was interrupted by her mother hushing her.
"What Grandma?" Rory said, accidentally piping up,
"Your Grandfather doesn't know." Emily said quietly, avoiding him finding out accidentally.
"You actually didn't tell him?" Lorelai asked in utter shock.
"No, I think it's better coming from Rory." Emily replied. Rory began panicking and her brain started going wild.
"Why couldn't you have just told him this once!" Rory yelled in complete frustration. "This is your way of punishing me isn't it! You wanted him to ha..." She was cut off from her rant by her mother yelling her name and pointing in the direction of the stairs to where Richard was stood looking extremely perplexed.
"I can't do this." Rory said before grabbing her coat and storming out.
"Well done Mom." Lorelai said, giving her a look that could kill before doing the exact same as Rory.

"I'm not telling him." Rory said adamantly as she leant on the Jeep.
"Someone needs to tell him." Lorelai said as she walked towards the car.
"Well it's not going to be me." Rory said, sticking to her ground.
"Well, who will it sound better coming from?" Lorelai asked her daughter who just shrugged the question off.
"You don't get it Mom, I'm his only granddaughter and we're so alike that it will just wreck everything and I don't want to have that sort of love-hate relationship with him that you do!" Rory said, noticing a pained expression on her mother's face. "Sorry, I didn't mean for that..."
"No, you're right." Lorelai interrupted. "I want you to be able to get along with your grandparents even if sometimes I can't but you may not always be his only granddaughter Rory." Lorelai said putting her hand on her stomach.
"Yeah, but he doesn't know that." Rory said as Lorelai suddenly realised that he hadn't been told anything of that night.
"True." Lorelai replied, biting her lip nervously.
"You know what." Rory began.
"No, what?" Lorelai replied sarcastically.
"I'm going to just tell him straight." She continued, ignoring her mothers wit.
"Oka.." Before Lorelai could finish, Rory was already half way to the front door.
Rory rang the bell confidently and pushed passed the maid, followed by her mother, as soon as the door swayed open.
"Grandpa, I'm..."
"I know Rory, your Grandma told me everything. You too Lorelai." Richard interrupted sternly.
"Grandpa, honestly I mea..."
"I'm going to kill that son of a bitch." He interrupted yet again.
"Somehow, I don't think that will help." Lorelai tried to remind him.
"Why is that?" He questioned angrily.
"Maybe because it was a joint effort?" Rory added in awkwardly.
"It still doesn't make it right. You had a lot going for you and you're too young to be a mother!" Richard yelled at Rory.
"Just because I got pregnant along the way doesn't mean my career is over forever! I am not 16 Grandpa, I'm 22." Rory yelled back, fighting her corner. Lorelai stayed out of the whole argument the best she could but she couldn't help but wonder how she was going to tell her parents she was having twins.
"What do you think of this whole situation Lorelai? I'm sure you have your own views." Richard asked condescendingly, snapping Lorelai out of her thoughts.
"Let me tell you what I think, Dad." Lorelai began, finding her common ground.
"I think she is making the best out of an awkward situation which isn't going to be helped by the two of you and your opinions on the matter. I'm proud to be able to call her my daughter which makes a difference from the two of you who labelled me a disappointment from the moment I told you I was having Rory!" Lorelai yelled in defence of Rory. "Oh, and I think I should tell you that I found out some news a few weeks ago. Looks like you'll be welcoming two new grandchildren into the world, I'm having twins." Lorelai added. Richard and Emily were both in utter shock and with that, the two Gilmore Girls left to return home to Stars Hollow.
