Chapter 5

Rory entered Lorelai's bedroom and placed herself on the bed whilst Lorelai locked the door and then joined her.
"I'm so sorry about everything mom." Rory said for the billionth time.
"Everything's going to be okay Rory. I am not going to be anything like my mother and I will not leave you. Understand?" Lorelai tried to drill into her head. Rory rested her head on her mothers shoulder and drifted off to sleep. Once her daughter had definitely fallen asleep, Lorelai mind raced with questions. 'How was she going to tell her parents that she was pregnant and then explain Rory was too?' She thought. 'How was Luke going to react?' 'Would he stop her from seeing April in case she's a bad example of a mother?' Lorelai got herself worked up again as she cried quietly into her palm. Her sudden train of though was interrupted by a near to silent knock on the door.
"Can I come in?" Luke whispered
"Yeah." Lorelai replied with a small laugh.
"What's going on between you two? Arguing one moment and all sweet the next!" Luke asked, at this point, terribly confused.
"Let's go downstairs and talk about this." Lorelai said as she gently placed Rory's head on a pillow and covered her with the duvet.

Lorelai walked down the stairs at a slow pace as this was the second conversation she was dreading to have.
"Come sit down." She ordered quietly as she patted the space next to her.
"Can you just tell me what's going on Lorelai!" Luke said, beginning to get impatient.
"Luke, I don't want this to change your outlook on things, on us. I definitely don't want what I'm about to tell to fall on Rory either." Lorelai began.
"Can you promise me that you'll love me no matter what and you'll still love Rory as if she's your own kid?" Lorelai asked doubtfully.
"Hey! Of course I will." Luke said as he embraced Lorelai as she became misty eyed yet again.
"Okay." She breathed. "Rory's pregnant." She spurted out.
"Rory's.. what?" Luke asked, knowing very well what was said.
"Pregnant. Rory is pregnant." Lorelai said slowly. "I don't think I can do it Luke." She said as she began to cry into his chest.
"Do what?" Luke asked, still in shock amidst anger.
"Be pregnant whilst my daughter is pregnant! It's not how it's supposed to be. Chilton, Yale, Journalism career and kids in the future. Not now!" Lorelai cried out.
"Hey, things don't go our way sometimes. That doesn't mean the be all and end all Lorelai. Luke said, trying to reassure her.
"She's not ready Luke." Lorelai exclaimed. "I wasn't ready when I had Rory, I might have done it, but I was not ready physically or emotionally and neither is she!" Lorelai continued to cry out.
"Lorel-" Luke tried to spurt out.
"I'm going to be a Grandmother..." She said as she came to the realisation. "I'm 37 Luke! I can't be a Grandmother before I give birth to my second kid." Lorelai said in an astonished tone as she rushed outside frantically.
"Lorelai!" Luke shouted after her in a frenzy of panic.

Luke hurried outside to find Lorelai throwing her guts up and balling her eyes out.
"Oh my God!" Luke bellowed as he ran towards her and rubbed her back.
"I don't know what to do Luke." Lorelai blubbered as she sat down onto the wooden porch. "I've tried to reassure her that it'll all be okay, but I can't promise her that." She said as she hugged Luke firmly.
"I love you Lorelai, you are by far the best mother I have ever seen or known. The chemistry you have with Rory is something that can't be created, it's just there." Luke stated with a mellow voice. "I'm extremely lucky, to have even be acknowledged by the two of you! I will admit, I have been pining for you ever since you moved here because you are special Lorelai, you really are. Of course, this isn't the most ideal situation for Rory, but I love her all the same and I will love you both through these 9 months to come." Luke finished whilst he placed his hand on her still fairly flat stomach.
"I love you Luke, but she's going to feel pain like no pain ever felt before and if Logan doesn't stick around, she's going to be just like me when I was 16." Lorelai trailed off.
"That's exactly it! Emily is not Rory's mother, you are." Luke said with a hint of enthusiasm which lightened the mood a touch.
"That's another thing! How do you suppose we tell my parents that I'm expecting, and then their soon-to-be Yale graduate granddaughter also announces she's expecting huh? I'm sure that'll go down a storm." Lorelai freaked.
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it." Luke added calmly.
"That bridge is gonna come pretty soon! Rory could possibly be slightly ahead of me and if I'm already beginning to form a bump, how long until she does?" Lorelai replied nervously.
"First thing tomorrow, book Rory a doctors appointment for later that day and you go with her to gather all the information you need and be a supportive parent." Luke ordered. Lorelai loved it when he seemed all possessive although she knew he must be all over the place.
"Okay." She smiled and kissed him on the lips. It began to get late as they continued to stay put on the porch and stay in each other's warm embrace until Lorelai began to get extraordinarily sleepy.
"Come on, let's get you to bed." Luke said as he kissed her on the head gently and helped her up off the floor.

Luke tucked Lorelai in next to Rory and kissed her goodnight before flicking off the light switch and heading down the stairs. All night, he was twisting and turning and unable to settle. Finally, he drifted into a deep sleep which his dream then consisted of Rory and Lorelai both writhed in pain at the dreaded hospital which then awoke him for good.
