Raylea
"Will you stop day dreaming up in la la land, come down to my level, and listen to me please!" Nat exclaims, slamming her hands on the kitchen table.
I jump up in reflex from the loud sound. "Sorry Nat, I didn't mean to." On the contrary, I really did try to pay attention as Nat informed me of her history. She said it was crucial for me to know at least the basics so if any outsider became suspicious, I can prove myself by knowing all the main clans on the planet.
The new information truly intrigued me. How that although the majority of sorcerers accumulated in Asia, there were still minor clans scattered across the world. That Nat is apart of an old and powerful Incendium clan which in Latin translates to conflagration; an extensive fire that has the potential to cause great destruction. Makes sense why her clan is considered powerful.
Turns out that sorcerers cast their spells in Latin and that their total brain function is way greater than any other creature. Where my brain function is not even three percent, Nat's nears one hundred. That's what allows Nat to do the impossible.
But as much as this knowledge fascinates me, my mind continues to wonder off in another direction. One where Vex constantly consumes my thoughts. It's been two days since he went back home. Apparently Nat said he had some family matters to take care off. While I understand that family is very important- that they can never be ignored- I was hurt that he didn't tell me so himself.
Therefore I am currently angry at myself. How can I be so selfish, wanting Vex to only think and look at me? This new feeling that I am experiencing towards him is changing me in ways I can't explain and I want it to stop.
Before I lose my mind.
"Where were we?" I ask Nat, hoping more knowledge on the world that was kept secret from my race for thousands of years would take my mind off of him.
Nat rolls her eyes and brings her attention back to the very thick history book. "As you know, supernatural creatures have always roamed the earth but only recently did humans discover our existence."
I nod my head, "the Revelation."
"Correct," Nat flips the pages until she finds what's she's been looking for. She then lifts the book and turns it in my direction. "What do you see?"
I stare at the old worn book, examining the page. "A small paragraph." I wish I could read the beautiful writing but last time I checked, I am not fluent in Latin.
"This paragraph is all that my kind knows of the Revelation." Nat states.
This catches me my surprise. "Seriously?" I ask. "How is that possible? Your race won the Revelation. Surely you know the details of your own victory?"
Nat humorlessly chuckles. "I wish that were true but apparently, the ruling council of six believe that the knowledge is too complex to be let out to the public."
"Council of six?" I ask. I only managed to catch those words.
Nat frowns, "the oldest and most wisest elders from each six supernatural species. They are the ones who make the final decision in crucial, international conflict. I think that them taking an oath of secrecy of the true events of the Revelation was completely uncalled for but, what can you do? No one questions the powerful six's decisions."
The fact that six individuals have the final say gives me a knot in my stomach. Why give so little individuals have that much power? Isn't anyone here worried about corruption and greed? Studying human history of monarchies, it was obvious that the majority of King's ruled with the thought of only themselves.
