Chapter 22

The Doubt

Mai Ding’s mother peeked through the small opening of the door and immediately sighed worriedly. Inside the room there was Mai Ding, completely covered under the blanket. There was no movement, but the middle age woman could hear the faint of sniffing and sobbing sounds. It was easy to tell that Mai Ding was crying and he had been like that since he came back home two days ago.

She didn’t know what happened. Her son suddenly came in the middle of night with a big suitcase in his hand. It was nothing like his usual visit when Mai Ding was home just to stay for few days or so. This time it was as if Mai Ding came for a long stay or even he looked like he would never go back to An Ziyan anymore. Not to mention how messed Mai Ding’s condition at that time, it made she was afraid to imagine what already happened between her son and An Ziyan.

Mai Ding’s mother, up until now, she still couldn’t understand what’s so good for a man had relationship with another man. But what could she do? Seeing how happy Mai Ding was, for being together with An Ziyan and how An Ziyan promised that he would make Mai Ding happy forever, it was enough for her to throw her logic away and gave them her blessings. Then, these past few years the middle-age woman was so sure that she already made the right decision seeing how happy Mai Ding was with the man he loved.

But what could possibly happen now? What’s making Mai Ding came home with a big suitcase and tear streaked face? Now, two days later, his condition even worsened.

Sighed heavily, Mai Ding’s mother came in and sat in Mai Ding’s bed.

“Mai Ding, what’s wrong? Did you fight with An Ziyan?” She asked. Mai Ding still didn’t move, but she knew her son wasn’t sleeping and aware of her presence. “You know, a fight between a couple is a common thing. Your dad and I also fight once in awhile. You don’t need to be all sad and down like this. If you are the one who makes the mistakes, then you should apologize. If it’s his mistakes, just talk to him slowly. In a relationship, we have to compromise and forgive each other. It’s the only way to make everything works.”

At first, Mai Ding didn’t reacted, but after awhile he slowly removed the blanket that covering his face. His mother was quite taken aback seeing how red Mai Ding’s eyes were.

“Mom, maybe I should listen to you since beginning. Love alone can’t guarantee our happiness, I realize that now.” Mai Ding cried out between his sobs.

Mai Ding’s mom sighed for another time. It seemed that her guessing was right. Her son was having a fight with his fiancé. She actually wanted to give a little piece of her mind to Mai Ding, but before she spoke, Mai Ding already pulled his blanket again to cover his body completely. He didn’t give a chance to his mother to talk.

In a luxurious restaurant, Wu Xin walked with overflowing confidence surrounded her. There was a wide smile plastered on her beautiful face.

Finally, this day has come. The day when she didn’t need to bow her head low anymore. She was no longer need to face the world with shame because of her son had a relationship with another man. Starting from now on, she could meet with her friends with ease heart again.

That day was the first time she agreed to mingle with her friends after all the mess in her family. It was a common thing for a wife from a well-known family like her to meet and socialize with another wifes from families with same status. When she entered a large private room in the restaurant, she greeted her friends with happy face.

“Ah, Wu Xin, glad to see you again. We thought that you didn’t want to meet with us anymore.” One of her friends shouted loudly. She looked like a little surprised seeing Wu Xin joined their meeting today.
