Listen, my love, to the song in my heart
It is calling, and calling, in beautiful song
Gently, so gently, it beckons you near me
And circles around you and carries you home!

Nathan bounced his leg in anticipation as he waited at the coffee shop, only receiving his friend's text seconds ago but feeling anxiety creep up his throat and nearly choke him. This was the most nerve racking waiting game in the universe, his heart shivered and rattled, his stomach did backflips, and his joints were filled with so much adrenaline. Nathan considered returning home and explaining that he felt sick, injured himself, anything to delay what he was about to say. But it would only make his friend worry, more than he usually did, and it would always make Nathan feel overwhelmed with guilt. Despite the nauseating anxiety, Nathan found himself smiling as he checked his phone for the hundredth time, almost eager to see his friend.

Hear, my love, the song I sing
(Listen, my love, to the song in my heart)
It calls to you in lovely song
(It is calling, and calling, in beautiful song)
Gently now, it beckons you
(Gently, so gently, it beckons you near me)
And circles you
(And circles around you)
And carries you home...
(And carries you home...)

The clock struck 12:00, lunch time was rolling around the corner and Nathan's friend had yet to show up. It wasn't a surprise, he'd explained over text that he might be late, but Nathan was growing more fearful every second. It wasn't so much that he feared that his friend wouldn't arrive, it was more so that he wouldn't be able to say what he wanted to say. A gentle song played in his head and calmed his nerves slightly, the song reminded Nathan of him.

Come to me, o my love
(Come to me, o my love)
Come to me, o my love!
(Come to me, o my love!)
O my looooove!
(O my l-o-o-o-ve...)
Come to me
(Come to me)

Matthew hurried down Sycamore Avenue towards the neighborhood coffee shop, but he still had a ways to go before he actually made it. Honestly, it was his fault for being late in the first place, mostly because he'd been working on what he'd say when he arrived. He would beat himself up for it later, right now he had to make sure he made it at least slightly on time. Matthew stopped a few feet away from the main building once he'd arrived, catching his breath and resting his aching legs out of habit. People passed by and asked if he was all right, to which he only responded with a polite smile and a curt nod, occasionally chuckling at his own stupidity.

Listen, my love, to the song in my heart
(Listen, my love, to the song I sing)
It is calling, and calling, in beautiful song
(Calling to you in a beautiful song)
Gently, so gently, it beckons you near me
(Gently, so gently, it beckons you)
And circles around you
(Circles around you)
And carries you home...
(And carries you home...)

Nathan sighed, his friend wasn't coming. He'd been looking forward to this but at the same time, he feared that today would be upon him. Telling your friend something that could potentially ruin the bond you shared, now that's a fate worse than death. And, as luck would have it, the song still played softly in his head and gave him hope. Warmth settled in his cheeks when he realized how silly he was, he shouldn't be so worked up about this.
Then the doors opened.
The song quieted.
His friend stood there and smiled, slightly out of breath and discombobulated. Nathan instantly stood up and helped him sit down, only pressing further when multiple protests were given.

Listen, my love, to the song I sing
(Hear, my love, the song I sing)
Calling to you in a beautiful song
(It calls to you in lovely song)
Gently so gently, it beckons you
(Gently now, it beckons you)
Circles around you
(And circles you)
And carries you home...
(And carries you home...)

Matthew looked at Nathan and smiled warmly, trying to stop him from helping. The ebony looked so worried and concentrated as he set Matthew in a chair, going so far as to pushing it in for him. He chuckled and his cheeks grew warm within seconds, Nathan seemed confused for a moment before looking away sheepishly.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" Matthew asked, resting his head on his hand.
"Well, I just..." Nathan twiddled his thumbs.
Nathan internally withered, he'd thought long and hard about what he planned to say but the words remained trapped in his throat. Nothing seemed correct, as if whatever he had to say would sound even worse than he thought it did.

Come to me, o my love
(Come to me, o my love)
O my loooooove
(O my l-o-o-o-ve)
Come to me
(Come to me)

O my loooooooooooove
(O my l-o-o-o-o-o-o-ve)
Come to me...!
(Come to me...!)

"I wanted you to know... that I, uh, value you as a friend but..." Nathan struggled to keep calm, he unconsciously gripped his legs.
Matthew did a double take, did Nathan not want to be friends anymore? Had Matthew done something? He truly hoped not, because Nathan was the only one he could truly and honestly laugh with, the only one who would keep his secrets, he was the only one who made him feel loved.
"I was wondering... would you...?" Nathan's face was entirely pink.
"Yes?" Matthew just wanted him to say it, just to get it over with.
Nathan bristled slightly and goosebumps trailed over his skin, you could practically see steam of embarrassment coming out of his ears. This wasn't the easiest thing to do, clearly, but if it prolonged as long as he was stalking for then he'd never get to say anything. Plus, Matthew might be getting a bit impatient with him at the moment, his eyes said everything.
"Would you consider... being my... boyfriend?" Nathan cracked a half-smile, hopeful.
Matthew stopped for a moment and let the question sink in, wondering how this could've happened in a matter of minutes. His mind flashed back to when Nathan had first texted him, asking about meeting at the coffee shop.
How did I get here?
Matthew often wished he could go back in time, just to see if he noticed any signs that Nathan gave, any advances, any flaws in his now useless mask of heterosexuality. Back then, he had no reason to notice it because Nathan was only just starting to grow on him. God, everything he did pissed Matthew off in the best way possible, leaving a yearning desire for him to see the musician again. The days he never saw him were boring and uneventful, a great contrast to when he would be there.
"I... what did..." Matthew stuttered frantically. "When did this happen?"
"Uh, a few months ago when we were at Mark's party." Nathan laughed nervously.

Matthew grabbed the collar of his shirt and yanked him aggressively across the table they sat, using his other hand as support as the taste of Nathan's lips filled his senses and he shuddered.
"I'd be honored," Matthew panted as they separated, "we'll continue this later."
Nathan chuckled. "Deal."
