To those who knew him—his friends—they called him Matt.
Or, sometimes, 'that guy who really loves his cat.'
He was tall and thin, with slightly curled hair, and whenever he entered everyone turned and stared.
Everyone wondered, but no could tell, if Matthew Patrick was under a spell.
He never missed school, his projects were better, but it all changed with one secret letter. To those who knew him—no one—he called himself Nate.
Or, always, 'that emo kid that everyone hates.'
He was tall and built, with Raven black hair, and whenever he spoke no one seemed to care.
During class he glanced around, looking for the infamous Matthew on school grounds.Decisions were made, a letter was sent, but did that fix anything?
Well, not yet.
For Matt had yet to open his locker, causing a downpour for the secret rocker.
In the end he found it, tucked deep in his space, wondering why it was so out of place. As different as they were, they knew of each other, so they spent the next few years examining the other.
Intrigued and afraid, they stayed far apart, hoping that something would start.
Something did start one day, but it wasn't good at all, and it all started with a 'Hey!'Unfortunately, a bully roamed these halls, and seemed to take notice that someone had paused.
Matthew was the prime target, and soon he was being held by the neck.
"Try to claw me," the bully declared, but Matthew could not take up the dare.
Nathan was too quick, he'd gotten hold of an old text book, and by the time he was done the bully was shook.
Matthew realized, as Nathan started to weep, that he was a friend he was willing to keep.In a few short months, no longer than six, they stuck together like a wall made of bricks.
Nathan protected Mathew, and Matthew attempted the same, but he'd always get into trouble and would feel so ashamed.
Nathan sang for him, pouring out his emotion, Matthew would wipe his eyes and give tearful notions.Once school had ended, leaving freedom's door open, Nate and Matt spent so much time together that it was hard to cope with.
In the heat of the sun, Nathan strummed his guitar, wondering if he'd ever see his shooting star.
If he did, he wished with all his might, he'd wish for Matthew to be with him every night.
Secrets are meant for two, never for three, but it cannot ball up inside of you.Matt found out, it was quite a shock, that Nate had fallen for him and his heart dropped.
Weeks later they lay against a tree in the park, wondering if the other could hear his heart.
With a touch so gentle it was almost unreal, Nathan clasped Matthew's hand, and knew his feelings were real.
Guiding his touch over his chest, his heartbeat quickened before falling to rest.
Matthew wondered, smiling bright, if he could surprise him. Well, he might! It was New Years night, fireworks lit up the sky, and Matthew glanced at his own source of light.
Porcelain skin glowing faintly, Nathan caught Matthew's loving gaze, he smiled even bigger, and returned from his haze.
Eyes warm and kind, Matthew pulled them together, their lips made contact in a sea of warm weather. As the story ends, the ending is yours, but many things happen behind closed doors.
