Matthew and Nathan giggled as they fed each other Hershey's Kisses, occasionally locking lips to increase the sugar intake. Not only did the sugar intake increase but their hearts matched in beating, both of them receiving a jolt of electricity within their chests. In their minds it was the best thing in the world, being together and sharing their love as if it were something everyone needed. It was true. They flaunted their love in public, in private, or wherever they wanted. If there was a color to describe their situation, it would be a florescent pink. But that was only in their minds. They looked happy and flaunted their love, but a hideous green lurked in their hearts as they did it, knowing full well that people were watching. They craved the attention. People would point out how cute they were, how happy they were for them, and how much they wished their relationships were like theirs. They chuckled darkly and continued to flaunt their undying love for each other, pitying those who were alone, treating them like children because they could never love like they could. A festering beast fed on their love like gangrene, decaying and infecting it until they weren't even alive anymore.
"Could there be a more perfect love?" Nathan asked, teasingly.
"Of course not." Matthew replied, biting his lip to keep from giggling.
When night approaches the beast emerges, their skin rotting, their heartbeats slowing to a stop, but they awake with the same feelings as before. Only empty, hollow, as if they weren't even real in the slightest. Perhaps once they'd been truly happy but dying at the hands of a stranger has contaminated them, anger was all they could feel, but they so desperately clung to that sense of love and care that it eventually drowned them in a sea of disease. Their love saved them but now it was killing them. Unable to let go of their torment, their pain, it became clear that time was running out and they would be separated for eternity. Nathan held Matthew close to him as tears of blood dripped from his, now empty, eye sockets. Matthew tried to wipe his own tears away but only ripped off a piece of his skin, causing more tears to drip onto the floor.

"What happened to us?" He whispered, afraid of his own voice.
"We came back..." Nathan answered, his chest tightening in alarm.
They had escaped death with their love, but there was no going back now. Their time was up and it was time for them to accept it, they kissed each other once last time before they turned to dust and disappeared. The people they'd met forgot about them, their existence was erased from the world, because they were never supposed to come back to life. In their hearts, the gangrene receded and slept until another couple decided to cheat death, then the cycle would continue into the end of time. Nathan and Matthew were separated, forever and forever always.
